Both my sister and I drive a Volkswagen Gold and we LOVE it! My sister likes the look, the handling and the fact that 5 people sit comfortably in the car. I love it because we actually managed to fit a friggen WASHING MACHINE in the hatchback once the seats were folded down. Crazy! Car is great on gas too… I get about 700km from a full tank (in Canada it costs me about $50 to fill up from empty).

My fiance drives a Dodge Caliber (also a hatchback) which is longer than my car. Honestly, I feel it is too long for my style and the back seat isn’t nearly as nice as in the Golf, but it is good on gas and maintence.

I drive a 2008 Mercury Mariner Premier AWD. I love it! It gets about 17 mpg in-town and 20-25 on the highway. Most people don’t make the connection, but it is the same body as a Ford Escape. Some main differences are the packages, and what is available. The Mariner’s have a better sound insulation, which makes is super quiet, even when driving down gravel roads.

I drove a Chevy impala until a few months ago- good car, safe, reliable, smooth ride. Downside is poor handling in rain and snow. After that got totaled, I got a Subaru impreza sedan (2012). It was just redone and OMG- I am so in love with the car that I am driving my husband crazy since I can’t shut up about it. It has AWD, top safety pick, smooth ride, handles great, gets 36 mpg highway (best of any AWD vehicle), great options, looks sharp, reliable, hatchback availablI,Bluetooth.. Just awesome! Also it is still under 25,000 even fully loaded.

I drive a Platinum Grey ’07 Volkswagen Jetta named “Squishy.” I love how much room it has inside (seriously, the trunk is HUGE)! It has great safety ratings, gets good mileage (I get somewhere around 33mpg highway) and is fun to drive. Squishy has the feel of a higher end German car like an Audi- without the pricetag.

I drive an Equinox.  I really like it.  SUV space but drives like a car rather than the rough ride of a truck.  DH is planning on driving my car (he drives the “bucket”) when his car finally dies, probably pretty soon and getting a new car for me.  I’m going to get a Honda CRV.

I drive a 2003 Nissan Murano and I love it. It’s the perfect size for me. Not too big or small. I feel very safe in it and I love the way it handles on the road. It’s a very smooth ride! It’s also very comfortable and roomy in the back seat.

@Dandelion D: Apparantly I’m adding letters, it was the FJ Cruiser from Toyota. It looks sturdy but when it gets in fights with the trucks in Texas it crumbles.

Cars are a big thing with FH, it is his passion/obsession.  He was pretty irritated to meet a girl who only drives Hondas.  I’ve loved ALL my Hondas, especially my current car, a 2009 CR-V EXL.  It gets really good gas mileage and is pretty low maintenance.  I drive about 400 miles/week.

FH will only buy American, and loves fast, high-performance cars, so he has a Cadillac CTS-V.  Its good if you like to drive super-fast, and its nice looking.  Wouldn’t recommend it for you though.  We also have a beat-up old 1996 Jeep Cherokee to cart our dog around in, or for FH to drive in the winter when he can’t drive his Caddy in the crap weather.  He LOVES that car.

Awesome! I have an 06 convertible as well, a V6. LOVE Mustangs!

Nice!!! I drive mine in the winter in Canada and it is ok. But it’s obviously no 4wd…

i drive a 2009 Nissan Altima. I previously had an SUV and I looooove the better gas mileage. It’s just so practical, and I still have 4 doors so it’s just as roomy. I think once I pop out some babies, I’ll get an SUV again!

Another girl with a Tiburon, so I doubt I will be much help. But – I am going to agree with other posters about a mazda 3 hatchback. I want one!!

FI’s got a Tacoma with a shell, so we’ve got the convenience of throwing things in the back when needed.

I commute to work about 70 miles each way and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my zippy little Mazda3s. It gets about 30 MPG, but the new ones (mine’s an ’04) get closer to 40 I think. My next car will be a Mazda again for sure. My aunt has one of their SUVs, and it’s fabulous!

@MissMarriage: Mazda 3’s are so cute. I considered one but Squishy ended up being better for me overall. Fiance has a Mazda RX-8, though, and he LOVES it. As far as sports cars go, it’s practical (4 seater with suicide doors and a large trunk) but it still has plenty of “Zoom Zoom!” 😉
