@angelalsmith3:  WOW! I am listening to iHeart radio right now and they are talking about this song because a listener wants to propose to it! I think it’s great! I don’t think it is distasteful at all! I would never think the bride were selfish if this were her choice. LOVE!

I don’t think it’s inappropriate from the lyrics I read. My fiancé and I danced to our song, Swing Life Away by Rise Against which isn’t a typical first dance song (he really wanted to dance to it since it was our song, the title is also engraved in my engagement ring) and we had a band so they had to learn it and play it for us. Honestly, not too many people were paying close attention while we danced which was okay with us. Dance to whatever you both feel comfortable with.

@angelalsmith3:  It’s not distateful at all. A lot of people’s wedding songs center around the woman (mainly because the song artist is a male LOL). Fred Astaire’s “The Way You Look Tonight” is a classic favourite, and I have never haeard one person complain about the “self-centered” bride!

I think its such a sweet song and its SO SWEET that he wants to dance with you to it. If anyone asks, you have the cutest story to tell about how he came home all excited cause this song made him think of you ๐Ÿ™‚

I think that is an absolutely perfect first dance song, just curious what you think is inappropriate about it? It’s all about a guy falling in love with a girl and making a life with her, if my fiance came to me and said he wanted that to be our first dance song I would absolutely love it. Unfortunately he is not a country fan and would not love this song lol. But I think it’s perfect.

Oh, I think you meant it sounds self-centered? I don’t think so at all. It’s his dedication to you and I just love it. So sweet. My song is You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne and with it sung by a man you’d think it was centered on me, but I always think of it as my song to my future hubby since I chose it and love that song. ๐Ÿ™‚

FH played “Hey, Pretty Girl” for me one night and we danced in the kitchen. That song makes me bawl like a baby and I think it’s a perfect first dance song ๐Ÿ™‚

FWIW, our first dance song is “Slow Dance” by Framing Hanley and part of the lyrics say, “I hope time could stop, it’s hard for me to breathe. She’s really walking over here to me.” So don’t worry about the song sounding “self-centered”!

Have the MC tell the story.  Just keep it short and sweet.  Introduce the first dance, and say ‘the groom, who was hoping to avoid any dancing at all, heard this song, and knew it was the one.  L&G, Mr. & Mrs.” blah blah blah.
