This is the dress my mother wants to wear to my wedding — she is also my maid of honor. I told her she could choose any style dress (long, short, strapless, sleeves, etc.) that was in the gold or purple color families (our wedding colors). She chose this, and I think it is both too close to white (the actual color is as it appears in the mirror reflections — light gold with white/silver shimmer) and a bit too glitzy/inappropriately tight. For comparison, I will be wearing a relatively simple dress: Lorie by Maggie Sottero in ivory, and I’m afraid that with her standing up there next to me, we’ll look like two brides or she’ll be literally sparkling with sequins and distracting. That being said, I think the dress looks great and would be appropriate for another occasion for her, and she LOVES it. Thoughts?

Your mom looks great, but I do think it is a bit too tight for a MOB/MOH dress. I wouldn’t wear something that tight as a guest, much less as a member of the bridal party. I’d get her to keep looking.

Wedding_Bee_8765: awww your mom looks amazing but if you think it’s inappropriate she should keep looking.

I think she looks amazing, but if the reflection is really the color, I think that’s just too white! Does it come in any other color?

Wedding_Bee_8765: I think your mom looks much better than I would. I think you are too worried about it.

I am an Ivory Lorie Gown Owner too! I think your mom looks amazing! It might be little too tight, something a little looser. Not saying that she should wear a sack by any means! She has a great body, she should be able to look good too.
I do think the color is a bit too much like yours and she should pick a different color.

Here’s a better picture to show the color (it’s the sparkly dress front and center), compared to some of the other color dresses I was hoping she’d aim closer to. It’s just very light and glittery.

I think it is too tight and too shiny for a MOB gown. The color isn’t really the issue.

Wedding_Bee_8765: I don’t think the fit is inappropriate at all. And the colour looks like a pale gold to me…which you said gold is one of your wedding colours. I think you are worrying too much…I don’t think your mom will look like a bride at all in this dress and I definitely don’t think this dress will distract anyone from you! My mom wore a similar dress to my sister’s wedding and in no way did it distract from my sister.

I think the dress looks nice in the color it shows but if it is actually the color in the mirror I don’t think so. It is too close to white

I think your mom has great taste and I would totally rock that dress at a formal wedding. Let her wear it. You told her to pick a dress that makes her feel beautiful. Stick with that.

I think the color will be fine – I think you will still easily stand out. As for the fit, I think it depends on your wedding venue and time. I would say it is not appropriate for a church or day wedding but would be fine for a more casual/progressive or evening wedding. But if it will make you upset, regardless, I would talk to her about finding something different.
