Have you ever heard of or used a product called Rescue Remedy?  I have a friend who’s ex rescues dogs from the Middle East to reunite them with soldiers who have since come back to the US.  She said they use that product (just rub a tad on dogs ears) to calm them down for the car rides/plane rides back to the U.S! She said it works wonders on hyper or stressed out dogs.  Maybe if you really want the dog there and tried that your pooch would behave swimmingly =) I’m going to test it out on my dogs to see if I can keep them calm for our ceremony too! Ours is outdoors though, thankfully. =)

It sounds like a great idea, I also have a lab so I know how sweet they can be! If it’s indoors though I’d say no.

If it’s allowed, my only suggestion would be to keep her away from the wedding bands and anything of a crucial nature to the ceremony. I had a friend with a yellow lab who happened to jump up and SWALLOW the wedding band right off the ring bearer’s pillow. O.O It was a nightmare for them and certainly makes me re-think including animals of any kind in the wedding, although I do think it’s a cute idea.

P.S.

Ooh… pictures of her in a slideshow with you guys? That would be my first thought on including her in some manner.

We love rescue remedy. You could also look at daycare the day before. We take Gizmo and he just wants to sleep the next 2 days after.

i was thinking of having a picture of our cat next to the guest book, with some wording like “Our Guest Book Attendant, Ziggy, Asks you to please sign your name in the guest book” or something like that

We have 3 pets and they are like our children so initially I wanted to include at least our dog in the ceremony. Then I thought of the logisitcs of it and realized how hard it would be. Instead, we had table numbers that were picture of our pets…and now I have them hanging at work!

@Stammie16: Ha, yeah I know what you mean, mines unavoidable. So we figured, going for it anyway. Corgi’s shed astronomical. And we’ll be outside.

Edit: Have you thought about having a dog walker or someone who is sort of close to you just holding on for him/her for the ceremony? That’s what we’ll do. We’re gonna have the ring boys walk him down, double leashed, and then have them hand him to the dog walker. Where he’ll go into the cage/playpen

Maybe you could put the pet’s picture in a locket and attach it to your bouquet? It would be small, but she would be with you for most of the day!

We used Zazzle’s photo sculpture option to create a 3d acrylic photo cutout of our pet parrot. We placed him beside the ring pillow before the ceremony so he could be the ring bearer. He was there when my now-husband proposed, so we thought it was more than appropriate. We even had him wearing an avian flight suit that looked like a tuxedo in the photo. The sculpture came out pretty lifesized too since he’s a small parrot. Maybe not so realistic for a lab, though!

i know its not the same as actually having them at the wedding,  but i will put my dress on again the next day when i get home and have some photos of us with my beautiful babies……then they will at least be in the wedding album.

is this something you could do?

Aw! I love the idea of including your pets in the ceremony. If we have a dog by the time we get married, he/she is totally being in it. I would include our cat but she’s kind of a bitch and she doesn’t travel well… haha. Love her though! If you can’t do it indoors, I’d honest to god change the venue… haha. Like other people said, there are things you can give them to calm them down, so that’s an option. You might be able to haggle with the venue owner about the dogs- maybe offer a deposit in case she ruins anything if that’s what they’re worried about?

I have a friend who was married last summer, and her and her DH’s dogs were included in the ceremony- they had someone designated to contain them on a leash and keep an eye on them the whole time, and it worked out really well. There were some great pics of the dogs interacting with people at the wedding. Very cute.

If it’s absolutely not an option to have her there or change your venue to allow it, You could have photos of her with your and your Fiance on the guest book table, or do a slide show with her in part of it during the reception? I hope you can have your her there with you!
