Hello. I am planning my wedding (Indian) for June/July 2010. I need an Indian caterer to proved vegetarian food for the reception. I want a plated dinner or if that’s too expensive then maybe a family style dinner. I really don’t want buffet style. I also want a little different and modern menu – not the usual Indian food. Am I demanding too much? Does any one have any reccomendations???????

I would recommend Moghul Caterers in Edison (I know it has come under fire in some posts as having fallen from its earlier glory, but they were our reception caterer and did a great job providing a largely vegetarian menu) or Palace of Asia in the NJ/PA area. They catered our sangeet food, and they were also amazing! Our guests, Indian and not Indian, loved the food.

I know you probably don’t want the “typical” Indian wedding, but the problem with Indian food is that it’s just easier/better to do it buffet style. All those stew-y dishes don’t plate up beautifully, know what I mean? If you’re dead set on no buffet, then family style is probably the best way to go. In addition to Moghul, I’ve heard good things about Chand Palace.
