Seeing as our wedding photographers are crazy popular, FI and I are just now getting aroudn to scheduing our engagement pictures. We will be doing them indoors because Chicago in January isn’t the nicest place to be. Does anyone have any sugggestions on where to take pictures? I’d prefer the city, but a short Metra ride might be okay too. Thanks bees!

I would recommend Union Station. Palmer House Hilton would also be a good choice (it’s our back up for wedding pictures in case it rains), but you might have to call ahead to verify that it’s ok.

Garfield Park Conservatory
Lincoln Park Conservatory
The Cultural Center
Restaurants?? Bavette’s, Henri, The Gage, Mercat A la Planxa, your favorite diner or neighborhood haunt.

I’m not local to you, but some of the nicest engagement shoots that I’ve seen have been in casual places like a Restaurant that is significant to both of you, a cafe, (romantic coffee shots, awww), or very public areas. This couple did NYC, but I’m sure you could come up with similar ideas! Bundle up, because being outside for a few shots would be really fun too!

@gvsusara: thanks for the suggestions love! We don’t have a “neighborhood” place though because we don’t live together. I think Garfield Park Conservatory might be the winner though. Our photographers have shot there before and the pictures always look amazing!

We did our engagement photos last January at the Garfield Park Conservatory and they turned out great. It’s a fantastic location! We also got a few outdoor shots outside the El station by the conservatory for a little urban flair. If you want to PM me, I’ll send you the link to our photographer’s blog so you can see some of them.
The one thing I might recommend (which we did) is to pay for a Parks Department photo permit. It cost $70. The staff never asked us for it, but our photographer said that sometimes they do, and if you don’t have one, they can prevent you from shooting. So it was worth the money to us for the peace of mind.
