We had an outdoor event. We had always planned on getting married at his grandparents lake house, so the only option there was outdoors for the ceremony and a tented reception. I think we would have chosen outdoors even if this was not available, as we are just outdoor kind of people. I think as a Floridian, there is nothing better than being with you friends and family outside on a clear sunny day. Whether it be in the backyard or on the water or at a local park, it is kind of a way of life around here, so a lot of people choose to be married outdoors in this area.

Our venue has the cocktail hour on the lawn and then a semi-permanent tent (with sides, flooring, heating, lighting, etc) for the dinner.

I chose the venue because it was a place where I had spent a lot of time when I was a child- so I didn’t really get to choose in/outdoor, but I really liked having a bit of both.  The tent was great, but because it had permanent flooring, sides, and heat, it wasn’t a typical tent.

As a guest, I generally prefer indoor receptions because unless it’s a really good tent, with a floor- it’s usually a little uncomfortable.

At tented wedding I’ve been to, I’ve dealt with wobbly chairs and tables (due to uneven ground), mud, cold, dampness, heat, bugs, insufficient lighting, etc.

We’re having an indoor reception. I could keep costs lower by not having to rent a tent, etc., and that way no worries about the weather, mosquitos, etc. Plus – I want to dance the entire reception, so it just made more sense to have it inside. But I love the idea of outdoor receptions, it just couldn’t work out for us.

The ceremony is on the deck of the venue, and the reception is inside, but people can hang out on the deck if they wish. The gorgeous view of the mountains is why we chose the venue! It needs next to zero decoration to remain gorgeous–a definite plus!

It will be outdoors but we will have tents/canopies to provide shade.
