What about food trucks? If you get a few options everyone can have their choice and it can be a super fun way to do things.

FutureRosas :  Look into family restaurants that cater. We found a family restaurant that would cater steak & seafood newburg with all the potatoes/veggies/rolls/coffee/salad/etc. for $18/person. They also did lobster dinners for $20/person. Or sandwiches and pasta salad/casual food for $10/person.

In Miami, I’d look into Buns & Buns, Miami Grille Catering, Havana Restaurant or Carrabbas.

Carrabbas catering menu: You could have salmon, chicken or pasta dishes with three sides and rolls for ~$15/person. And while they may be a chain, their food is delicious (in my opinion). No one will notice that it’s not from a fancy caterer, in my opinion 🙂

You can also look into drop-off platters and then hire servers through a 3rd party company, which may be cheaper.

We used a food truck, but the owner had all the equipment to set up a buffet inside as well. We were really happy with that and it was very inexpensive compared to traditional caterers.

FutureRosas :  It’s a website for foodies. Just Google Chowhounds and your city. You can search the site for old threads or post a query for help.

FutureRosas :  We’re doing BBQ…we’re getting married in Kansas City, so it’s an obvious choice. Especially since 99% of our guests are from out of town. It’s only $14 a person… so something extremely local is how I would go and restraunt based instead of caterer based. I noticed the caterer’s were double the price even just for BBQ. I wanted family style but threw it out the window when I saw we could feed people world famous BBQ for $30 a person cheaper.
