Are you still looking for a venue? I just got married in Trinidad, CA, which is very northern in Humboldt County. The area is incredibly beautiful… you really cannot beat it. It’s sandwiched between the redwood forest and the jagged Pacific north coast. For photos, you can go to my profile and look at my recent recaps.
We got married at the Lost Whale Inn (http://www.lostwhaleinn.com). I believe they are within your price range, and their food is absolutely to die for if you want them to cater for you. We stayed in the Sea Lion room the night we married and I absolutely loved it. They have an outdoor hot tub perfect for taking a hot soak underneath the stars while listening to the ocean waves and the barking sea lions.
Another bonus of this area is that vendors are quite affordable due to the small size of the surrounding cities. If you go this route, I’d definitely recommend booking Jen from http://www.jjtphoto.com as your photographer. She has a stellar reputation in the area and her work is gorgeous.

Wow! Thank you guys all so much! Being engaged is turning out to be an incredible roller coaster!
I definitley have a lot of research to do on all of the wonderful places you all suggested!
For those of you who are look for a place similiar to what I am looking for…..I found quite a gem.
It’s called Grant Ranch in San Jose. It is part of the Santa Clara County park system and they allow wedding for….drum roll please………. $450!
The only thing is that you have to be totally out of there by 10pm.
This might be a deal breaker for us but it’s absolutely beautiful!! I will try to post pictures later. But the awesome thing is that they have a campground right next door =)
heck…we might still do it there!
If anyone knows of a place that can go late…let me know!
Thanks again!! Warm wishes to all of you XoXo

Where did you end up booking your venue? I am having the same issues with venues. To make matters worse I have to have a July wedding to ensure that my little brother can be there. Of course that’s the most expensive/booked up time.

We ended up finding a venue on HomeAway which is a website where you book vacation rentals. This place is a ranch vacation rental with a main house, guest house,1 bdrm cottage (for me and my love bug), and a “barn” that allows weddings and has no noise restrictions! The barn doesn’t look like your typical barn, it’s more of a recreation den. Highly recommend it! It’s truly beautiful
We are staying there 3 days including the wedding day and are very excited! I’ll try to remember to post pictures afterwards =)
If you have any other questions feel free to post!

@sugarbayb16: Is $5000 your budget for the entire wedding or just the rental fee? I was also looking for an affordable wedding venue and stumbled across this great site that lets me search for venues by budget. http://www.wedding-spot.com. You can even choose what options you want and get an itemized lists of costs for each venue.
My fiance and I really like Palmdale estates in Fremont. An outdoor ceremony/reception there starts around $1600.

@sugarbayb16 does that el dorado ranch venue accommodate 150? I am getting married in 2015 and looking for something similar 🙂 thanks!

Hi there! I am sure they can accomodate 150….but just to be sure you should email them (see the links above). I am having about 120. The thing with this place is that it isn’t your typical venue…it’s a vacation rental that you can use as your venue. You have to rent it for a minimum of 3 days (for me that was awesome). I would highly recommend contacting the owner of the property. If you have any other questions let me know!

I found a fairly new barn venue, We are getting married at the Lehman Barn in May 2014. It is close to El Dorado Hills and Sacramento. It has a historic barn and it is stunning! Reasonably priced too! Goodluck in everyones search:) CountryTaylor

Preciousforest.net in Clearlake – starting at $1,900 including beds for up to 30 people. Pretty, but very rustic. They are on airbnb too for more pictures, and highly rated on tripadvisor

Hey there everyone! Had the wedding and it was fantastic!!! I thought I had posted where we decided to have it but I guess I forgot in all of the wedding madness!
We we ended up having it in the town of Mountain Ranch on a property called El Dorado Ranch. http://Www.theElDoradoRanch.com. You basically rent out the property for 3 days and can have the wedding on site. They even have an arch that you can decorate and get married under.
no bathrooms so we had to rent porta potties vut everything else was excellent.
geography wise it’s in the foothills 1 hr south east of Sacramento.

First of all, congrats! I read this thread a year ago and glad everything worked out!
I have been looking at venues for the last 6 months and the El Dorado Ranch is by far my favorite! Was it just $625 a night? Any pictures you want to share? We will have 100-120 people and will hopefully rent the entire ranch to allow family from out of state to stay.
I was wondering what vendors you used for chair rentals and such? I live in Sacramento and Fiance lives in Sonora, but there is not much to choose from for rental companies it seemslike. There are bathrooms there I thought in the residences, why the porter potties, bad septic tanks? We are hoping to go view the place on the next few weeks. Any concerns you had or things you wish you had known? We’ll be shooting for a late summer or very early fall 2015 for our “do date” 🙂 Any feedback would be most helpful.
Congrats again! 🙂
