- Wedding: January 2013
I just wish to vent some of my pain as an inexperience bride-to-be.
I just engaged in Apr this year, and my wedding is in December. So I think I have plenty of time choosing what I want for my wedding. The only restraint is my budget is very limited, so I have to carefully on how much I spend.
So due lack of experience and limited money, I decided not buy my wedding dress immediately thinking that I always have plenty of time to come back to that. I am focusing on the wedding itself and organising venue, makeup artists, photographers etc.
Now, 4 months towards the wedding, I become panic when a friend warned me about buying the dress in Melbourne requires 6-8 months in advance. I find it hard to believe that every Melbourne bridal stores only serve customers with 6-8 months, unless I am willing to settle with what’s on the shelf/sample. Also they all priced 2000 above which is way above my budget is below 1500 dollars.
Because there is not much time left and the stress I have been through, I challenged my luck and bought a dress online from a well-known online website. Due to the limited time, I bought a dress with specific length so I don’t have to alter and also pay for the rush delivery $100. The dress is already in process for 2-3 weeks, expecting to arrive in end of Nov. I thought I can easily rest and waiting for the big day.
Yesterday, I passed a shop in QLD that sell the same dress as the one I bought online (but hasn’t arrive yet) Turned out I just find out that the dress I bought is 2 sizes bigger. I bought size 8 (US), and my size is 4 (US). Shocking! With only 2 weeks between the dress arrival and my wedding (end of Nov til Dec), I have risk of not having the dress ready on time.
I can’t cancel the order nor find new dress because either way, it will cost me money and blow my budget. I contacted the online site and beg her to change the size for me after 2-3 weeks order. She can’t guarantee but she has been kind helping me to call the manufacture on Monday to try stop the production and change the size.
I am basically living in a nightmare from now until the wedding. I also read so many scary story of few brides-to-be had experiencing.
This has become the unforgettable lesson for me to learn.
