Not sure if this helps, but we aren’t doing inner envelopes at all. We went very informal and put everyone on the outer envelope. So in some cases (multiple children living at home) we have:

John and Jane Doe and Family

And in cases where a college-age kid is living at home:

John, Jane and Jill Doe

I doubt Emily Post would approve, but it worked for us. 🙂

I don’t see the point of the extra inner envelope – I mean, I SEE the point but I don’t think it is necessary. I am not doing it.

I think it’s:

Jane & John Doe                                                                                                   Jack & Jill

John and Jane Doe

Jack and Jill

But do whatever you like, I dont think anyone would really notice or care.
