Help! I just cut my toenails and can already tell that one is too short and will no doubt lead to an ingrown. I used to do this ALL the time as a kid, and it took a long time to break the habit of cutting too short. I havent done it in so long, so now I dont remember if there is anything I can do to try and avoid it becoming ingrown?
HELP! I need all suggestions you have. Thanks hive!!!

Tuck a small pice of cotton batting under the corners of the nail. This will prevent it from growing into the skin.

I haven’t found anything to prevent it. I have one that it permanently ingrown. I had it cut out by a doctor and it grew back, at least not as deep in the skin thankfully. I usually try to cut my nails straight across to prevent problems.

I try to cut straight too, but it drives me nuts when the corners are like, digging in to the sides of the skin, so I always end up cutting the corners a tiny bit. I just cut too much. 🙁 I dont think there are even any corners/extra nail to tuck cotton under.
Oh well, I’ll just have to take my chances. Thanks girls!

If you start to feel like it is becoming ingrown do warm/hot water soaks every day, which will soften it a bit at which point you should be able to lift up that edge. I hadn’t heard of the cotton idea but you could probably get some in there after soaking it (I’m not sure if it works though!)
