With quite a few cake posts lately, I’ve been thinking about our wedding cake. It was amazing and delicious but it didn’t really look like I was expecting it to. Don’t get me wrong, we LOVED it and so did everyone else but the feature of the inspiration cake that I was looking forward to the most were the glittery, realistic looking leaves. Ours ended up looking a tad too cartoonish for my taste.
What about you? Was your cake close to the inspiration or were there some big differences?
(The color is off because the inspiration is fondant and ours is chocolate buttercream)

@UpstateCait: At first glance, I was going to say that it looked similar, and that you must have been very happy.. but, after reading your comment about the leaves, and taking a closer look, I can see what you mean about them not being as realistic. Still, it’s pretty!

@UpstateCait: I can definitely see what you mean about the differences between your cake and the inspiration pic. But I really love the look of your cake! It’s so pretty. I’m just sorry that it wasn’t what you had envisioned.
This was one of our inspiration pictures:
Pretty simple. The only changes we wanted were to add a few flowers and some mini bunting that I made. I was really happy with what our cakemaker did!

@brighteyedgirl & @parasol: I definitely still LOVED the cake and would use the bakery again in a heartbeat. I would assume that most cakes have atleast a little variation from the inspiration.
& @parasol: Thats beautiful! Love the bunting!

What a great idea for a post! Love these photos, can’t wait to see more. Our cake is going to be
and I will definitely come back here to post photos of the finished cake at our wedding! Our lady will make it delicious, no matter what, but I am nervous that she won’t be able to replicate the look or make it quite so polished.

I wanted fun cupcakes that looked similar to the wedding flowers. The cake lady did a wonderful job.

In the grand scheme of our day it was a very small thing, and I didn’t let it bother me…but our cake so did not look how I had intended. It totally lacked the smooth look and gradual color change I loved. Oh well, it was still cute and my guests didn’t know the difference. And our topper was adorable <3

@UpstateCait: I actually prefer the leaves on your cake to the inspiration leaves!

mine were slightly different also. What I loved about my inspiration cake were the icing flowers, but my cake ended up with different flowers. Oh well…

I did approve the shape change and the tier being elevated but, I think the rest of it still got totally botched!

I knew I only wanted three tier and different llowers. The first is inspiration bottom pic is our actual cake. I actually like ours better! And it was sooo good. 🙂

Here is my inspirational cake. The idea was the branches and the different teirs.
and this is how mine ended up to go with my enchanted forest theme. the cake topper is in the middle of the branches. it’s a nest with eggs that say happily ever after.

I’be done this postbefore and am excited to see how this one goes! I think I had a similar inspiration as one of the previous posters (top) and mine is the bottom. I thought they got it pretty close. Just the flowers were a little bit smaller.

Let me try this again.
I wanted fall flowers and three tier. I actually liked it better 🙂

@SapphireSun:, @PoliceWifeToBe:, @spoonoutmyheart: Your cakes give me hope that the final can be as good or better than the original cake inspirations. Lovely!
