Make up: I spend $40 on foundation every 5-6 months, and $20 on mascara maybe 3 times a year?

Eyebrows: $20 maybe twice a year.

So that comes out to $180 a year, or $15 a month! Luckily I learned how to cut my own hair at the beginning of college, and I have done so ever since!

Hair-$75 2-3 times per year

Manicure- I probably average $15/month.  I typically do my own manicures but will occasionally get one done and will get a gel manicure a couple times a year.

Pedicures-$50 a month.  I average 2 pedicures a month

Eyebrow Wax- $15 3-4 times per year

I do spend probably $50/month on hair products/make up/ facial things to do at home.

I’ve never really thought about how much I actually spend on my looks, and I’m feeling a little guilty.

Color and trim- $90 once a month

Eyebrow waxing- $30 per month

Pdeicures- $80 a month

Gel polish- $18 a month (I do my own, but I ususally buy myself a new color each month)

Makeup- $80ish a month, depending on what I run out of

Skin care- about $100 a month (Clinique acne system, moisturizer, sunscreen)

Massages- $150 a month

Gym membership- $40 a month

I’m on a beauty budget freeze right now because I’ve been at Ulta way too much this summer.

I spend $120-150 every 2-3 months for a good cut and color.  My stylist actually says that I could do a big highlight/color job once every 6 months with touchups every 3, but I tend to switch things up based on my mood and/or the season.  It actually is more expensive to get the same things done at Fantastic Sam’s in my area, so I go to the independently owned salon that I love instead.  🙂

$12-20 every 2 months or so for a brow wax.  I pluck in between to keep it maintained, but good brows are totally worth that cost.  I don’t need any product or anything to fill them in because they are very full as they are.

In the summer I might get 1 or 2 pedicures.  Never manicures.

I try to get one good massage in per year.  I honestly could use more due to a stressful job, but it’s not in the budget.  $60 for that.

Monthly I try to stay within $30 for makeup and hair care.  The expensive stuff is a lot of money but also is totally worth it because it WORKS and it LASTS.  It averages out to about $30 each month, but sometimes I can’t resist a good sale.

I’d say per month it averages out to about $95-$100 per month.

I would estimate $20/month which includes hair cuts, occasional mani/pedis (like…2 or 3 a year) and my regular toiletries and make up. I can’t even fathom how I could have time to spend more!

I think the Bee that quantifies it in terms of % of salary was interesting especially since I also see lots of threads about people unable to save money. I wonder how closely these things are related. Mine is less than a quarter percent of my base salary.

I just get beauty products whever they run out, typcally sephora so it can be a bit expensive, $50-ish every two months?. Me and DH buy a lot of korean skincare products and we reorder them when they run out too, $20 every two months. I havent been to a hair salon in 3 years lol I should probably go one of these days.

LilliV :  I think you’re talking about my post and I agree that percentage of salary is a more interesting question. My percentage is higher than yours but hasn’t been an obstacle to saving. I should have framed it as percentage of household income, as my husband earns enough to pay for what we want and need (including Sephora!) so we squirrel my entire salary away into savings every year.

Holy smokes that is a lot of money on beauty! I am a fairly simple girl, haven’t died my hair in almost 7 years and I only get my nails done professionally for a special occasion.

Hair – $12 every 6 weeks at Supercuts

Massage – $95 every 6-8 weeks

I enjoy taking time for myself, and one way I enjoy decompressing is self-care. I think skin care is a high priority as it’s one of the few things you wear everyday and it has to last you your whole life. Yes, I like to look nice, but generally I’m fairly casual. I do need to look somewhat polished for work, so my clothes/shoes budget does account for that. But as far as my hair/skin/etc:

-Hair: $60 every 10 weeks so ~$28/month

-Facials: Once a month at $60 with tip

-Nails: sporadically at $40 so maybe averages to $15/month?

-Dermatologist: $60 appts every 3-4 months, so ~$10/month? (though this comes out of HSA)

-At home skin care products, including Rx: Probably about $25/month give or take

-Make up: $25-35/month, perhaps more if I have an event

-Occasional blow-outs: $40 every 2-3 months so ~$10/month?

-Gym: $60/month + $45 per week for personal training session (1x week)

Total: about $355, though that does vary.

Since I’m pregnant and we’re in serious saving mode, I’ve cut down a bit and I’d guess this is under $300/month. Most of these things I’d like to keep up once baby is born. Not because I’m super vain but I was raised to take time for myself and pride in my appearance. Most importantly, I enjoy it.

I get a $20 hair cut every 6 months. Otherwise, probably just a few bucks a month for hair and makeup if I run out.
