Until May, I worked as a youth director at a synagogue in Syracuse, NY. The community that I worked with was just amazing and here is a great example of how wonderful they can be. One of the kids that I worked with just celebrated his bar mitzvah (Jewish ceremony, essentially a “coming of age” around the ages of 12 and 13) and instead of having a big party, which is generally customary, he chose to put together a community project to build a gazebo for a group home; here is the article: http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2010/10/instead_of_a_bar_mitzvah_party.html
He is such an inspirational young man!
