Hmm I think the flowers are a bit too froufrou looking and the horizontal ruching of your dress is also less flattering than diagonal ruching. That said, I understand not wanting to blow money on a new dress. Can you imagine it without the flowers and maybe with pretty accessories? Would that fit your vision of how you want to look? Alternatively, maybe you could try to find a second hand gown so it won’t blow your budget too much. As a bride in Asia, I totally understand!! I ended up buying my gown from preownedweddingdresses.com and getting a friend to handcarry it from New Jersey to Singapore!

I love mermaid dresses,  but in your case you don’t need it.  You look great in the dress you bought, so stop looking.  You can have the sweetheart neckline deepen slightly by a seamstress.  I really like the shape of your dress and the flowers on the bodice and skirt.  I think you are done shopping.

It’s a pretty dress but I agree that the flowers and ruching are a bit too busy. Since you are in Japan and there are limited options, would you be open to having a dress custom made for you (by a seamstress, or “THE SHOP”, etc)? Then you could probably get something reasonably priced that is also something you love.

I think the dress you brought will look lovely when you add accessories, veil etc. I am personally not a fan of the flowers on the bodice and think it would look more elegant without them. All the best.

I think you look amazing in the dress you bought. The shape of the dress is really flattering on you. Even the flowers, which are generally not my taste, actually look good with this dress on you.

But, if you’re not happy with this dress, that’s ultimately more important than how flattering it is.

PS i’m also selling my mori lee 5108 if you’re interested haha. I’m Chinese but not usual tiny Asian size, my dress is a US size 10.  Corset back so it could probably accommodate a size up or down. Let me know if you’re interested! I actually just shipped it back from Japan, sigh. (We took photos in Kyoto with the sakura!)

I’d keep the current dress and see if you can alter or maybe remove some of the flowers on the front. The back of your dress is amazing!

szya:  I agree with PP. The flowers cupping one breast… not sure what that is. HOWEVER, the rest of the dress is beautiful and very elegant.  Have those flowers removed.

I like the shape of the current dress so much better but I do not like those flowers. I would remove them and replace it with a beaded applique or something more simple and elegant, like the mermaid dress with the sparkly beading. Honestly, I don’t think it’s elegant enough for the wedding you described as it is, but it’s a fantastic shape and you seem to have gotten a pretty good price on the dress, so you can get some alterations done to spruce it up to your liking.

szya:  keep the current dress. It’s very flattering to your figure. Ditch the flowers at the bust and the hip to give a more elegant look. Use killer accessories to glam it up.

I would stay with your current dress, it seems more elegant for a grand ballroom wedding… the mermaids dont seem as fancy to me… If I were you I might get the flowers removed from the dress (too beachy) and maybe add a sparkly belt. I love the back tho – you look awesome!

    szya:

Can you remove the flowers and maybe put beaded/rhinestone applique in it’s place? Kind like the top of the Maggie Sottero you posted.

I personally love the modified a-line look on you and the back of your current gown is stunning with the way the train drapes. The flowers are just kind of alot and I think perhaps a beaded applique or even lace applique in their place would be much more elegant.

szya:  it’s a gorgeous dress fit, it fits you so well. I think the flowers around the bust area are a bit much but if they come  off I’d remove them.
