I haven’t had any insurance since I lost my job in 2008. My fiance is on his parents’ insurance. Any advice or company recommendations for obtaining great, yet cheap health & life insurance? Thanks.

Do you belong to any professional associations? They sometimes offer insurance to their members.
I’ve been hunting for health insurance and found that you can get great recommendations by going to healthinsurance.org.
My husband was able to find insurance at http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/ when he was between jobs. It is always going to be more expensive to get insurance when you aren’t with a group unfortunately because most employers pay half or more of the bill for you so you don’t see how much it really costs. I would consider a high deductible plan and setting up an HSA. The premiums would be lower because you need to pay more out of pocket for medical expenses. With an HSA (health savings account), you can put money in and it isn’t subject to taxes and if you don’t use it by the end of the year, the balance rolls over and when you reach retirement age, you can take it out without penalties.
Thanks ladies! I guess I should have mentioned that I live in Chicago, Illinois and he lives in Rochester, Minnesota. Minnesota, it seems, is in a league all by themselves. It has been the most difficult thing trying to open bank accounts and find insurance that are compatible with both places. I went ahead and purchased dental insurance today that I will most likely cancel when we marry simply because they are not in Minnesota, but they will benefit my dental needs until then.
Most likely, we will get our insurance when I move to Minnesota.

It’s good to at least have something now in case an accident happens. I hope you get a good plan when you two move to Minnesota!
You can check out short term health insurance plans while you’re sitll in IL here:

Thanks MissAsB & LatteLove! I think I may have just found a company that may work… American Family Insurance seems to have everything “under one roof”, LOL! I believe I’ll be okay before May on health insurance. I know it sounds naive, but I just had a doctor visit last week (for which I paid out of pocket) and I don’t belive I’ll be going back until April when my doctor will place me on FOLIC ACID… WOOOO-HOOOO! I’m so stoked about that!
I did apply for dental insurance today, however, just so I can start back on my oral health routine. I’ve slipped off tremendously and haven’t been to the dentist since 12/07. I will start back in 01/10.
There’s so much to consider becoming a wife/potential mommy! Nonetheless, its SO exciting!
