we have my SO’s 1920s heirloom ring insured. It’s the same process where you go to an independent appraiser (one that does not buy or sell rings) and use that to get it insured. The majority of the time the whole value will be in the stone. They will look at comparable stones in the market (including OEC cuts or older) to determine the value.
