Currently I am on my work’s insurance and DH is on his, with open enrollement for both of us going on I decided to dive in and see if it would be better to get on his plan (my work will not allow him to be on mine since he is offered it through his). I also am trying to figure out the best choice for once the baby arrives. It is such a headache and it doesn’t help that I get different information from everywhere. I wish someone would just tell me the better plan to choose. Any suggestions on comparison tools I could use online or anything?
Both insurance companies offer a cost calculator but they aren’t very helpful since they say a hospital birth (and name specific hospital) will be around 5k but when I call the actual hospital they say L&D charges start at 7k…very helpful there website.

I’d call the companies and make a side-by-side comparison sheet of what you’d get!

@BrandNewBride: I have that information but it’s not as easy to simply compare since some aspects are better than others 🙁 Plus I’ve discovered that the wording some companies use lead you to believe one thing when it’s really not that way so I’ve spoken to both companies multiple times and I’m still no closer to a decision.

I don’t think there is any good way with insurance. I was in a bad accident a few years ago, and I couldn’t decide which was worse..insurance or the hospitals billing. lol Sorry, i’m not much help…but good luck!

My boyfriend works for a small business and they just told him the other day that they’re dumping their benefits. Now he *has* to sign up for his own plan by March 31st because of the ACA. We were looking at the website last night trying to sign him up and WOW, what a pain in the ass it is! If we were married he could just go on my insurance and I don’t have a problem pushing our wedding date forward, but I don’t want to marry him before April because then we’ll always have a crappy anniversary. I don’t want to celebrate that every year when it’s still cold and grey outside! Besides, he has a birthday in January and I have a birthday in March.
