I love my SO very much, but he has a history of giving some interesting gifts for me. Now, this thread isn’t supposed to be complaining, it is more of lets laugh at it all together.
Our first Christmas together, he gave me a stapler. Yes, you heard me right, a stapler! We watched the movie “Office Space” on our 2nd date, and he says I mentioned that I would like a red swingline stapler, so he remembered and got me one! It was very sweet, but, in the end…..I ended up with a stapler! Haha, he means so well…….
What interesting gifts have you gotten?

Hey! You can make this work for you! Just find a reason to wish out loud for jewellry, a trip to Tahiti, a Porsche, etc etc etc.

LOL at the stapler (it really is funny, but not when you’re receiving it, haha).
I told Mr.ND I’d love a new cookbook with quick, healthy recipes (school is chaotic so I don’t have a lot of time for cooking at my apartment). What do I unwrap in front of his entire extended family? A 1990s version of ‘The ZONE Diet Cookbook: ZONE-Perfect Meals in Minutes.’
Oy, good effort, babe, good effort. O.o

The first gift my Fiance (then boyfriend) ever got me was a little toy car. I mentioned that I thought the Bugatti was the coolest car, and he said when he had the money he’d buy me one. Turns out they’re not very expensive when they’re 3 inches long…

@indibee:That made me laugh! They do try so hard, but sometimes they just dont’ get it

My fiance won a figurine, and a set of pearls in a tournament tonight…the pearls are great but the figurine is kinda out there… =)

@indibee: Yea, the stapler is a lot more funny now than when I got it! I brought it to work and put it on my desk since I really don’t have a reason for one at my house! That cookbook story is funny, he tried to listen to what you wanted!

@ForeverAndEverAfter: I am curious, what kind of figurine was it?

He isn’t very romantic and is very practical. He never gives me flowers, until he gave me 8 bit foam flowers!

I had an ex one time who got me light bulbs for Christmas. He was a bit of a tight wad and I am not, so I’d gotten him some nice gifts…sweaters, nice gloves, heavy bathrobe and slippers…and I guess he wanted me to have a lot to unwrap so imagine my surprise when I unwrapped light bulbs, and then a can of mixed nuts from the Dollar Store. He also tried to pass off a WalMart gown as if he had gotten it at VS but poor boy didn’t realize the brand was a familiar one, Faded Glory which does not from VS. It’s the thought that counts right?? Honesty is best, though!
My Fiance is an incredible gift giver and always gets me just the right thing.

My Fiance got me a potato for Christmas one year.
Because he read this:
Why Potatoes Make a Better Love Symbol Than Roses
The first reason is that roses only last a couple weeks and that’s if you leave them in water. That’s like saying “My love for you is transitory”. But a potato! Potatoes last for a long time. In fact, not only will they not rot, but they actually grow stuff even if you just leave them in the sack! That part alone makes it a good symbol. But wait, there’s more!
There are so many ways to enjoy a potato! You can even make a battery with it! That’s like saying: “I have many ways in which I show my love for you”.
Flowers really only exist to be pretty so that’s like saying: “My love for you is based solely on your appearance”. Potatoes may be ugly, but they’re still awesome. So that’s like saying: “It doesn’t matter at all what you look like, I’ll still love you”.
For these reasons and more, we would like to see potatoes become the mainstream symbol for love and friendship.
So on Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, birthdays, and ANY other gift giving occasion: save a flower, give a potato.

@TinyTina: This cracks me up. I am curious, what did you do with the potato? Did you keep it until it was growing, make it into a battery or eat it?
@TinyTina: OMG…this cracked me up. I could see my husband doing this!

I got Fiance a cast-iron skillet and a griddle and made him cook me breakfast after he opened it 🙂

@T-Rex: We planted it and it made baby potatoes!!! Hahaha, Fiance called it “our love potato”.
