Hive, I am needing some help. My fiance and I are really wanting to adopt after we get married. We have thought about this a lot and want to adopt a baby from Uganda. We will actually be making a trip to Uganda next summer and are wondering how long the process takes to adopt internationally. Do any of you have any experience with this? We know nothing about it, his parents adopted but it wasn’t international and it was a long time ago. I would appreciate any information. How much it costs. Requirements. Do you have to use an agency?
We qualify for all the requirements I found other than the ‘living in Uganda for three years’. I read that that requirement gets waived a lot of the time though.
And please, I don’t want this to turn into a discussion about adopting in the US. We know where we want to adopt, we just want information on it. Thanks ladies!

I wish I had more information, but my mom worked at an international adoption agency for several years, and at one point my aunt looked into international adoption (which was cancelled due to a sudden illness) I would think going through an agency would be beneficial, as they can guide you through the process and help out with a lot of the red tape.
I do know that international adoption has changed quite a bit over the last few years. My mom’s agency used to do adoptions out of Korea, but now they have their own internal adoption system and are encouraging the use of that.
I will also say that you will likely not get a “new baby.” There are lots of requirements and stuff typically, and I believe when you pick up a “newborn” they will be 6-8 months old.

Thank you both! My fiance actually always complains about me being on here too much but last night when we were talking about this he said “post it on that bee site, i’m sure one of those women will know!”, haha.
