Do any bees out there have any experience with overseas/international movers? Darling Husband got a job offer in Canada (we currently live in France) and I’ve done a bit of research on containers but the prices/ companies seem to vary quite a bit, which is a bit worrisome to me as we would be entrusting these people with (most of) our worldly possesions? Can anyone offer any advice or recommend any companies that they had good experiences with? Thanks in advance!

Whoa, I just did the opposite move.
Although I can’t reccommend the company we dealt with because they raped us.
Make sure you ask a lot of questions about ‘extra’ cost ontop of what you’re paying or if it’s all covered.

I’ve been slowly moving suitcase by suitcase for the last 5 years so I haven’t personally tried any of the shipping companies but I’ve heard lots of good things about allied if you have them there.

@misscoralrose: is the new company handling / paying for the move? i did a big international move and the quotes were all over the place. i would suggest researching as much as you can. the best is to find forums of people that have done what you are doing and they can typically direct you to the best moving method. be careful of some of the brokers, i have heard horror stories. get referrals.
i did not go through a broker for my move. i handled everything myself and managed the logistics for the land freight, sea freight, customs, etc. it was probably a third of the cost by doing it myself and nothing was damaged or lost. it was a lot of work and you need to be super organized but it was totally worth it.
look into shipping companies that will rent you a container to ship your belongings. also, if you are not near the port, it may be cheaper for you to take your belongings to the port with a uhaul than for them to send you the container and then pick it back up. check out all of your options before settling on one.

We have used overseas moving companies a few times but the logisitics are handled by the government so I don’t have any experience to lend in that area. I do recommend that you get insurance for the shipment. Some companies/movers cover damage (broken items, container gets wet inside) but not total loss (container falls off ship in a storm) or vice versa. Make sure you have complete coverage for the transit.
