I’m just wearing a corset under my dress as my bra etc.  It sucks me in a lot, so I’ll wear it for my dress fittings and get my dress altered to fit with it on.  I don’t know how it works as far as attaching one into your dress, but the first one looks like a cool idea.  What’s your aversion to just wearing one under? Just for convenience to only have one piece?

I vote to go with a corset, esp. if that’s what you want. A corset not only nips in your waist, it also smooths out the fit/lines of your gown and it holds things in place very nicely.

Both styles would work to accentuate your waist, so it’s more about style/comfort preference. Depending on the construction, the lace-up one can be tightened more than the stretch corset to really suck things in, but the elastic corset is likely more comfortable (well…as comfortable as shapewear can be).

@ariaK:  You’d actually need it made smaller, since the corset will make your waist so much smaller… it’ll shrink you more than the thickness it adds.  But I see what you mean.  If they’re able to do it, I’d say go for it.  But again, it’ll pull your waist in more than your natural size so would need to be probably smaller.

@ariaK:  I think the second one is intended more to just keep the dress up/in place.  I did try on a few dresses with built-in full corsets like your first example and I think they’re a great idea!    I want to say Justin Alexander dresses had them?  That said, I think they could get very hot, so if you don’t need hard-core shaping, I might go with Spanx and a built-in bra instead.
