I’m caucasian and he’s mixed caucasian/african american and most of the cake toppers are either both white, or both black and I’ve seen hardly any brown colors (i.e. not dark african american).
I’m looking for something totally non-traditional (I really like the one the bride is dragging the groom with sports helmet in his hands or the one she’s jumped up and kissing him). I know I can get a couple of cute animals (doesn’t really fit our wine theme) or have one made for us for $100’s …it is really starting to make me angry there isn’t more of a selection out there. I saw posts about this from 2 years ago, and I’m hoping someone has found a site that specializes in this sort of thing. Any info bees?

I went through this, too, so we ended up just getting white doves (not original, but very pretty!) as our topper. I’m caucasian, hubby is Indian. There really aren’t that many out there. I didn’t want to spend a fortune to have one made, either. Hopefully somebody can help you and has ideas!

I’m asian and my husband is black…we just stuck a fresh peony on top of the cake. I wish we had a topper for sentimental reasons, but there aren’t many asian/black ones.

Ugh, I’m having the same problem. I don’t want something too generic, but I’d really like people toppers… is it really that unbelievable to people who make that stuff that in 2011 there are couples who aren’t both black or both white?
ETA: I did find this site
a while back, which has some decent options for not too steep prices.

Thanks Jocember, that’s closer to anything I’ve found…of course all the ones I like and want aren’t the mix-and-match ones! Ugh! It’s just frustrating! I’ll let you all know if I find any and you do the same!

Not sure how much you want to spend, but perhaps you can get one custom made on etsy that resembles you and your FH? if you like the sports helmet idea, you could even personalize with his favorite team.

Fiance and I are not in this situation, but I made our cake topper. I used little wooden doll things from the craft store and paintied them to match us. I know, not that original, but it worked for us 🙂 Maybe as a last resort you can paint some?

@kerensa – Thanks! I LOVE the Etsy ones, many of them are great! I don’t know how much I want to spend, I guess like $50 but it seems I either need to suck it up and pay the price or get over the idea of having people on our cake, cuz it doesn’t look like there are other options! 🙂
@Tessemasgirl – those are soo cute, maybe one of my artistically inclined bridesmaids would try to make them for me!
I also found this…not sure if anyone is interested, at http://www.save-on-crafts.com They’re cute, but I’m not sure it’s me! I might just be too picky! 🙂

@carrie berry: go to theknot’s website shop and they have “interchangeable” cake topper people of all races….basically you select a ‘race’ for the bride and groom part and then they can be like snapped into place together i think (selling for $50) http://weddingshop.theknot.com/interchangeable-cake-topper.aspx

I’m sorry that you are having a hard time finding a cake topper 🙁 I know with the cake topper that I am getting, I am going to have to find a sharpee marker or one of those edible cake pens & color the girls hair brown instead of blonde. The one we want is very unique & they only have it with a blonde headed girl 🙁 maybe you could try something like that. I hope you find something!! 🙂
