@DreamingofDiamonds:  Of course you can wear a (professional, business) skirt. Obviously a miniskirt wouldn’t work, but that outfit sounds fine. I would opt to wear the jacket because I’m sure there is AC in the office and you will look more polished. First impressions mean a lot.

Hmm.  I ALWAYS wear a skirt, especially if the interviewer is male.  LOL  We were always told that skirt suits are more dressy than pants.

@DreamingofDiamonds:  I wore a skirt to my interview with my current employer, and we’re a progessive IT firm. I interviewed with 2 guys, and didn’t feel for one minute that I wasn’t being taken seriously because I was in a skirt. To be honest, I think women think about this more than men. If you’re wearing something appropriate, I doubt they’d bat an eye, or be able to remember the color of your shirt after you walked out of the room.

Wear your blouse and skirt with your heels. Keep your makeup minimal, and your hair out of your face, neatly styled. Most importantly, go in with confidence and poise.

Good luck!

@DreamingofDiamonds:  I say, yes. It sucks, I know. I do a lot of hiring and all these little details matter. It just looks more professional and pulled together. When in doubt, over dress. After an interview, I will never say, wow she looked way too professional for this job. The thigh high nylons are great, and you can get a cheap pair at the drug store. They aren’t too hot or restrictive and it’s all about modesty in the workplace 🙂

You can’t go wrong with being TOO business formal. Too casual, on the other hand, can be the interview kiss of death.

@BlondeBee:  +1

I only remember if someone is dressed inappropriately or has a terrible handshake. That sticks with me.

I’ve never heard that you shouldn’t wear skirts. I’ve worn a skirt to ever job interview i’ve ever been on and also been offered a position for ever job i’ve interviewed for. Good luck with the interview and wear a skirt if you want!

A skirt is fine, but definitely wear pantyhose.

I don’t think you need pantyhouse.  Especially for that kind of company.  Do people wear them in California?  I’ve always heard that things are so relaxed there pantyhose are unheard of!
