Yesterday I went shopping for a suit…I found a great gray jacket with a black lapel, but they were out of pants that matched the suit, so I got black pants instead. I was googling to find what short of shirt to wear underneath the jacket and came across a few sites saying NOT to mismatch the suit jacket & pants….so now I am wondering if I need to return the jacket and get a matching black one to go with the pants.
What do you think?
the jacket I got
Here is a pic of what it looks like w/ black pants….I would probably wear a solid white shirt underneath. Look at the model on the far right

I think you will be fine. It will look good. The pic on the model looks good. Good luck on the interview!

I voted that they do not need to match, but I guess it also depends what kind of job you are applying for. If it is a very formal job/company, where they were suits everyday, then maybe you should wear a matching one. If it is more laid back, I’m sure you will be fine.

@Monkey786: They don’t wear suits every day but we have to dress business casual….this will probably be the only time I wear a jacket unless I get the job and meet with agents (3-4 times a year).

I love it, I think it’s much cooler than just a black jacket. They don’t need to be exactly the same

It depends on what your interviewing. If you are trying to join corporate world, I think a solid color suit with long sleeves would be best. But if it’s a laid back business casual, this is great suit. Good Luck on your interview.

@cherrycoke: It looks good with the black pants. It helps that the jacket has the black lapel also to coordinate with the black pants in my opinion.

I tend to be on the conservative side for intervies, but I would really consider getting a jacket with full length sleeves. Gray is okay, but I think the jacket you showed is a little casual

Iwill probably wear a black tank instead..

@cherrycoke: I own a pink blazer with a black lapel from express. I also purchased the matching pink pants, a black skirt, and black suit pants. I have worn it with the pink pants and with the black skirt to an interview. All three options look like they were purchased together. I would get a jacket with full length sleeves though. I would also wear a colored shirt instead of a black one with that suit jacket.
I wear this one from express all the time (I own it in teal, maroon and purple) with their suit jackets. I think teal would look best with the gray, but the other colors would work too.

I like the jacket. But I would wear a more professional shirt under, just to be safe! You’ll do great!
