@Renee37: Congratulations!  Do you and Fi have a favorite meal or restaurant?  I would start there and think about what you want to serve your guests.

For a dress, look for a tea length dress.  Think 1950’s dresses.  Check out theknot.com, marthastewartweddings, and weddingchannel.com for inspiration.  i’ve seen weddings where the bride chose to wear a non-traditional wedding dress that was red top and black/white skirt.  It was what made her look happy n she looked beautiful.

For your cermony and reception design, check out those sites as well for inspiration.  Looking @ real weddings will help you decide your theme.  You can rent chairs and tables from a local event company.  To decorate, you can create your own table centerpieces w/ vases you can p/u from the dollar store or 2nd had store.  You can get table clothes there as well.

Food.  If you can, cater.  Find your favorite restaurant and ask to have them cater.  Create the menu you and your guests will enjoy.  Since its an intimiate affair, you don’t have to have the traditional wedding food that tends to be unremarkable.

Have fun and plan as a party and nice house warming event instead of just a wedding.

You can wear whatever style you want!!  In general, people prefer non-ballgown type dresses for smaller home weddings, but it’s completely up to you. The sky’s the limit. 🙂  I’m having a home wedding, although it’s bigger than yours – about 60 guests. I’m wearing a floor length slightly fitted sheath with a small train.

I am having a 20 person wedding.

I got a full length dress and I am debating on a small bridal party.  I am trying to get drop off catering from a local restruant or caterer.  We rented out a private lakehouse and hope to have the wedding outside of it (plus we get it for a week after!).  Get whatever dress you want, anything will be appropriate for an at home wedding (well maybe not those trains that are 30 feet long).

We had 37 including myself, my groom and our pastor at my ceremony.  I chose the dress that made me happy!  For me that was a full length ivory poofy dress with a train.  We had 2 bridesmaids and 2 groomsmen and a flower girl.  Really there aren’t any rules for this.  The only thing to keep in mind is that if you have 10 people standing up for each of you and then only 20 in the seats, it might look a bit wierd.  lol  Think about the people that mean the most to you and choose them for your wedding party, or decide that you really don’t need a wedding party.  Do what makes you happy!

@fancypants:  I need to talk to you. I want a rented lake house or cabin. I’m worried that I can’t see a lot of picures of the houses I’m interested in, so I don’t know what kind of yards they have. So I guess I’d need to contact each and every one. And I worry about how “natural” the yards are because if the owners have let nature have it, then I’d be in BIG trouble for renting it and then not being able to clean up the yard in time.
