AMEN… people are absolutely ridiculous with their double standards. I’m throwing a reception when we get back from eloping and it will still be thousands of dollars. I’m sure I’ll still get gifts also because the one’s coming are coming to celebrate us just like they would otherwise.

pixelpisces:  My decison to give a gift, and the value of that gift , has nothing to do with the style of your wedding. It is based on my relationship to the couple.

i had a traditional wedding; and even had to only invite some people to the reception because we couldnt fit anymore in our church 150 to ceremony and 400 to reception. i know some people that i know 100% were at our ceremony and didnt gift us anything. and my sister had a destination wedding only intimate family invited and then had a big reception when they got home and everyone got them gifts. So i guess i dont know where your thinking that if you just get invited to a reception you dont have to give gifts? i usually only go to the reception unless its someone im really close to and we still get them gifts; maybe we’re just thoughtful?
