We’ll be in search of an antique ring over the coming months. Art nouveau, art deco, or otherwise… something that speaks to us is what we’re looking for.
I’ll be at the International Gem & Jewelry Show with my boyfriend soon, in search of an antique engagement ring. I need some pointers on what to watch for in replica rings. There’s always the telltale “it’s too perfect” or “it’s a princess cut” (that cut didn’t come alone until the 60’s, correct?)
Anybody know of other rules of thumb to keep in mind? Or is there a good website with guidelines to watch for? Of course, we’ll make sure there’s a GIA or AGS cert. as well. Should I make sure there’s a money-back guarantee – that would allow time enough for an independent appraisal? (Is that even how it works?)
ALSO: Anyone know of good websites to shop for antique rings? I’ve just discovered Fay Cullen, Ruby Lane, Dianne’s Estate Jewelry and Israel Rose (that last one has some pretty amazing deals!). Are there any other websites I should be searching?
