I really felt that I had PCOS, but I dutifully waited the full year of TTC before going to the doctor (who, sure enough, confirmed that I have PCOS).

I wish I had gone sooner to get tested. The problem for me was that my doctor would not test for PCOS unless I’d been TTC for a year (this was dictated by my insurance–yours may be totally different). If your doctor will test you now, I would just go do it. Don’t worry about being “that girl”– you have a legitimate health concern that you want checked out. Good luck!

sherryberry:  I have a hairy chin, pain on my ovary, and wacky cycles. I thought for sure I had PCOS. Turns out I didn’t and have no cysts at all. Just phantom pain, a hairy chin, and bloating.

I’m also pregnant, so there is a good side. I was ovulating, just not in textbook fashion. No idea what caused the pain.

My best friend has PCOS and is struggling to TTC. She’s had to have very expensive tests and surgery. I really would encourage charting for several cycles befriend going to the doctor. That’ll help give them lots of information and save you money on tests.

Best of luck and I hope you’re wrong!

I say go. We’ve been TTC for 10 months, and I knew something was off, because I was spotting throughout the month. I did a lot of looking online, and was pretty certain I haf polyps, but my Dr kept insisting we hit one year TTC before she’d send us for testing. So, finally I just started calling her every time I spotted. Within a week of that we were referred and guess what?  I was right about the polyps.

My approach was perhaps more obnoxious than you want to be, but the point is this: it is YOUR body, and no one will advocate for you if you don’t. I say call. The eorst that can happen is your Dr thinks you’re paranoid,  but with WebMD, so is everyone else…

sherryberry:  I too have moments when I convince myself I have PCOS. But I think it might have a lot to do with the fact that I read a lot about it on here & other sites. I have horrible cystic acne and somewhat heavy periods, but not a lot of pain. Also, I’m not overweight, maybe even a little under. No hair issues either. I’m going to the doctor tomorrow (obgyn) to put my mind at ease. I think you should head to the doc too! My GP was surprisingly helpful and understanding, and I’ve only been trying for four months. I agree with Saratiara, you really just have to be obnoxious and assertive! hopefully you get your BFP this month though, good luck!
