I’m kind of down these days with work stress and engagement drama. My Fiance works from home and doesn’t work many hours…. he’s been taking on considerable new hobbies lately. He’s playing some video game, learning electric guitar, taking singing lessons, taken up photography, taking a graphic editing class, learning a language and hiking in the week.
I get home from work and I’m dead tired/stressed. He greets me and wants to show me x y and z he’s gotten done with his hobbies that day. In some ways I’m super resentful because I don’t have the time to do these things. But some of that is projecting because I’m not even sure what things I’d want to do when I get home. I take a little craft class now and then and I live for travel but craft classes aren’t often enough and travel plans have to be scaled way back considering the financials of my life coming up. I don’t see my friends often enough and largely that’s because they socialize with food or alcohol and I’m really watching what I eat.
So I want some ideas of what everyone else does to invest in themselves? what keeps their passion for life burning?

@Pele: I have yet to go to school, and I plan on going in the fall, so I’ve been taking free online math classes at kahnacademy.org so I can ace the entrance exams. Seriously, I’m thinking it’s the best thing I have done for myself!

I run. Sometimes I run by myself to get away from my thoughts, sometimes I run by myself so I CAN think, and other times I run with friends so we can catch up (and maybe earn a few extra calories to share a bottle of wine!!)
I also get together with girlfriends once a week, and MrDane has guys night when I’m hanging with the ladies.

@Pele: I love this question! I have a constant passion for life. I am never bored.
For me the key is living in the moment and really feeling everything. Being present. I feel that life is too short to waste on too much rumination.
I keep my passion for life kindled in small ways. I adore spending as much time as possible with my Fiance, just his physical presence comforts me and his smile lights up my life. And my son is a great person and loads of fun as well. So, for me, those two people are first.
I love cooking. My usual day is to pick up something fresh at the market for dinner, and a bottle of wine. When I get home I light candles all over the house and kitchen and put on classical music (or jazz, whatever my mood). A glass of wine in hand, I delve into the recipe with wild abandon. It’s fun and then there’s a wonderful meal for us to share when I’m finished.
Also, we love gardening. We have lots of flowers, herbs and currently tomato plants to visit, water and tend to. My Fiance and I make it our priority every evening the weather is nice to walk around our property and check things out. We live in the country and there are always tons of birds singing, bugs buzzing, frogs peeping and rabbits hopping about. In our backyard is a fountain and a cushioned swing for two. When it starts getting dark we light torches and a fire in the outdoor fireplace and snuggle in the swing with glasses of wine. Sometimes we talk about the day and sometimes we just hug (or make out, yum).
For me it’s the little things in life that bring me the most peace and enjoyment. Just my daily routine brings me a lot of happiness. I just live. Breathe. Walk. Eat. Sleep. Make Love. Cook. Clean.
Idk, for me, it’s all good.
