I have several relatives that live with their parents, some with children of their own and some without. Do I send a separate invitation to them, even if they are in the same household, because they are over 18, or do I just put “Mr. and Mrs. Elder, and family” or “Mr. and Mrs. Elder, and Child and Grandchild”?

Technically, if they’re over 18 then they should get a separate invite.

For Save-The-Date Cards, we’re doing “The Smith Family,” regardless of how old the children are.
For the wedding invitations, we’re sending invitations to anyone over 18. So, one household may get three invitations: “Mr. and Mrs. John Smith,” “Mr. Thomas Smith”, and “Ms. Jane Smith.”
If they are under 18, then the outer envelope can read “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and then the inner envelope can list everyone: John, Mary, Thomas, and Jane Smith. Or, you can put “The Smith Family” on the outer envelope and list the names on the inner envelope.
