We had a similar issue, and for simplicity’s sake decided to keep everything the same and used our full names on everything.

We had the same issue with my name. I put the nickname on the front and my full name inside.

For your situation, I’d use his abbreviated name for everything since that’s the name he’s known as. I know lots of people like to be “tradtional” and use their full legal names for wedding correspondence, but I think it’s not necessary and maybe even a little outdated. Because he goes by Nick in his everyday life, I’d use Nick for everything… invites, monograms, program, placecards, etc.

I’m having a similar dilemma with my Fiance (Jim vs. James). I ordered a custom return address stamp on Etsy and decided to use James for that, so I’ll use his full name for the rest of the invites too.

I say use formal names on the actual invitation and the use of nicknames is appropriate for other things like the website and monograms. It makes it feel more personal.
