2 weeks later… I know for a fact someone hasn’t received their invitation (because they sit right across from me at work). Now I wonder how many others haven’t made it.

I am terrified to send my invites out! (Needless to say, this post didn’t help much, lol.) I had one weighed at one post office and they told me 44 cents. (I didn’t have the RSVP stamp on there because it’s a postcard stamp and they just came out with the new ones today, but I’m hoping that doesn’t put me over the top.) I sent a sample to my dad and he got it, so hopefully it works fine for everyone else.

this will be one of those annoying things “Uncle Fred” will tease you about at family dinners for years to come. I’m sorry this happened at such a stressful time, but I am sure everyone will understand.

I know this is an old thread but reading it really made me want to hyperventilate! I just sent my invites out last Saturday!

Jeez… this is scary… You’re making me not trust myself because I only asked at one post office!

Did anyone try mailing one to themselves to see if it made it through the mail?

My story….I made luggage tag STD’s (they turned out beautiful – I found the idea here on the bee)…..used a small, lined envelope. Due to the thickness of the luggage tag, when I took my one envelope in, I was told 1.05 to mail. Two stamps since I didn’t even think to order special. I went back home and started putting stamps on all of the envelopes before I stuffed them, as I wanted the envelope flat, so they went on nicely.

My Fiance took them all back to the post office the next day and was told that they made a mistake, didn’t realize that the luggage tag was also very firm, not flexible. Now it cost 1.39………..the cents aren’t the big deal by any means – the fact that now I have 5, yes 5 stamps on my small envelope is the big deal.

Had it been me, I would’ve paid a few more cents, just to have only one more stamp (men don’t seem to think that way)………I didn’t even see them as our post man (very small office) felt bad for mis-quoting, he agreed to put them on for us.

I now fear that my guest’s will think I have invited them to join a stamp collecting club instead of saving the date for my wedding……..I haven’t had any feed back yet as most were mailed out of state  – tomorrow should be the day. UGH!!! So yes, add a few cents to any postage that is “ir-regular”…..

@sparkles_10: I did and it took like 2 weeks to get back to me, and the only reason it did was because I had listed my address as the return address, as well – it had a big yellow sticker on it to review by postmaster or something.  I got impatient and sent one to my dad and it got to him in 2 days, so I’m blaming ours on our mail carrier – we tend to miss a lot of mail and I’m worried about not getting RSVPs back.

@Beluga: I only asked one, too! I’m planning on mailing them tomorrow, but I think I’ll ask one more first.

Scary. I went to the post office today and the machine told me 98 cents. I went to the lady behind the counter just to be sure and she said $1.26.

I think I’m goona go back tomorrow with the whole batch and try again and post em on the spot. I can’t deal with any drama, especially with my overseas invites!

Freaking out!! Does anyone know if non machineable mail takes longer to get there?

Prior to ordering my custom stamps from Zazzle, I went to THREE different post offices to get the amount. Post office #1 told me $0.86 (one oz at $0.46, additional oz at $0.2 and $0.2 for non machineable charge). Post office #2 told me $0.92 and post office #3 told me $1 something. I went right around the time the rates were about to change so it was a little confusing getting the correct amount. But seriously? Each person I ask tells me something different! So I did lots of research on my own and determined that $0.86 is the right amount. I went on usps.com and stamps.com and a bunch of other websites to be sure. My invites are non machineable because the cards are square.

So finally last Friday (2/15), I took my invites to post office #1 to mail. I got a different person and he tells me that it will be $2 something because it was slightly over 1/4 inches in thickness! I tried to explain that I was told it was $0.86. He was not a very nice person and told me that I can try it but they may return it to me and it depends on the person who will process the mail. I decided to just try it at that point since I already had the custom stamp. Another thing I hate about USPS is that I can’t just pay the difference in postage. If I wanted to make up the difference, they’d just sell you additional postage for you to put on…but that defeats the whole purpose of my custom stamp!!!

So since then, I’ve been checking my mailbox everyday to see if any invites have been returned. It is now exactly one week (2/22) and no invites came back, but my guests have not received their invites either. Some are only a few cities away and should take MAX of 3 days! I am SO freaking out now. The invites were all HANDMADE and I averaged 4 hours EACH card!!! I hope they get delivered or at least get returned!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
