I think you have the right idea with addressing it to the person invited.  We are also trying to avoid anyone bringing all 4 of their misbehaving rugrats, so on our response cards we are doing something along these lines:

Mr & Mrs John Doe

We have reserved __2__ seats in your honor.

___ accepts

___ declines

Or something like that.  We are addressing the invitation to the person invited, and specifying how many people are invited on the RSPV card.  Does something like that work for you?

For mine, I had a single RSVP and a double RSVP created.

My single RSVP gave the option to circle a 0 or a 1 (and to not write in their own.)  My double RSVP gave the option to circle a 0, 1 or 2.

I hope it works!  We also put Adult Reception to follow the ceremony.

If you’re concerned about kids, you might want to call the moms directly and let them know. I had a major family blow-up over this, but three other moms that I’ve spoken with so far have been great about it (offering to help find babysitters for out of town guests).

I would do what the pp poster suggested about putting that you have so many seats reserved in their honor if you are really worried about people bringing uninvited guests.  But, normally, if it is addressed to “Mr & Mrs Smith” only Mr. and Mrs. Smith are invited.  I think that inner and outer envelopes are an older tradition that is completely up to you if you want to use, but I don’t think it’s a necessity.  We did pocketfolds (ordered from cardsandpockets.com) and they were beautiful and easy to work with!  If they send back that they are bringing 4 people when only two were invited, you can kindly call them up and tell them that only 2 people are invited, or you can put on your reception card that it is an “Adults only reception”.  I don’t think that there is anything wrong with putting it on your website under the reception tab..but maybe word it that it is an adults only reception…you shouldn’t feel guilty about not wanting children at your wedding.

We are also not allowing kids at our wedding, I have heard that in the past and planned on using for the reception card or on your website you can put Adult reception to follow (this is a subtle way of letting everyone know kids aren’t invited).  Also make sure that your bridesmaids and groomsmen get the word out, by telling close friends and family that its an adult only reception.  I like the idea for the pocket fold invitation!

We are not inviting kids outside of family still living at home (my 6 yo nephew, 2 high school cousins, FI’s high school cousin).  We did not put X seats reserved in your number, we just listed on the outside of the envelope who was invited.  A triffle awkward with the “and guest” on the outside, but so be it.  It seemed silly to include a second envelope with a pocketfold.  Some parents have asked in advance of the invitations and we told them likely no.  People are disappointed, but so far no major fusses.  If anyone RSVP’s for additional guests, we’ll just call/email them.

@BluegrassBridetoBee:  It was the Silver Stardream color.  It’s beautiful and great quality!
