hey Bees, do you all know what size invitations are the least expensive to send in the mail? I keep reading that if you send unusual sizes they will cost more for postage. I am planning to send very basic invitations, no extra strings, ribbon or bells on them.
I’ve also heard about a tri-fold invitation that folds into itself and is able to be mailed off without the need of an envelope. Furthermore, the 3rd fold actually detaches and acts as an RSVP that can be mailed back. Anyone have any exerience with these?
Thanks ladies!

@JoolyBee: From the usps site:
- Rectangular
- At least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick.
- No more than 6-1/8 inches high x 11-1/2 inches long x 1/4 inch thick.
Not sure about those trifolds though, you might want to ask the place that is printing your invites. I DIY’d mine, so maybe another bee who had theirs printed could help you with that.

@MrsWBS: Do you have any suggestions in terms of what you used? I guess I should have clarified…I was hoping to get more info in terms of experience, what types of invitations people have used, websites and designs they used, etc. That is, in addition to the link you gave me. I forgot to check usps website for some reason…duh.

A pocketfold will probably up your postage to $.65. Square invitations also cost more to mail.

I am sending rectangular invites that I got from Wedding Paper Divas. The only thing that is in my envelpe is the invite, the RSVP card, and the return envelope. No inner envelope. This was good enough for the regular 45 cent forever stamps. I have heard that square ones cost extra to mail so I did not get that one.

@Westitude: Which rectangle size are you using? I was thinking I’d skip the inner envelope too…

@JoolyBee: 5 x 7 card. I was so paranoid that I had my finace take the invites to the post office twice just to make sure it was ok to just use the first class stamps. I decided to skip the inner envelopes because 1. I didn’t feel like doing any more printing since I am adressing them myself and 2. I wanted to keep a casual feel. Good luck 🙂

@Westitude: Thank you…one last question because I’m seriously clueless when it comes to these even though I’ve RSVPd to weddings before, is the return address already on the RSVP card and is the card already stamped?

@JoolyBee: The RSVP card that I ordered came with a small envelope. I print my name and address on these envelopes myself to save some $$ but you can also have it pre-printed. You also have to put a stamp on these for the guests to mail them back to you. So in all I used 2 first class stamps per invitation.

@JoolyBee: A6 & A7 cards will use standard postage. Any larger than that and you will pay the 65 cents. RSVP cards should be pre-addressed and stamped. To save money on postage(we actually didn’t cause I wanted matching stamps!)/envelopes we had RSVP card postcards.
