I wouldn’t. I know I’m not. We had a meeting with ours we found off the internet and she said she would stay for pictures after the ceremony, mingle for a few minutes at the cocktail hour (at the same venue), then leave before the reception begins.

Try asking him what the typical schedule is for him.

No, I wouldn’t invite him.

Just ask him what his typical timeline is including arrival and departure, so you can plan accordingly.

We invited our priest to both, and he declined both. Granted, we did know him a little before the whole wedding process, and liked him very much, so felt confident inviting him. (we were actually a little bummed he had something going on that night).

We gave him an invitation during one of our meetings with him.

I would say maybe half of the weddings I have been to had the officient there as a guest.

kb7:  I would expect that he would go to the reception as long as it is right after the wedding and the same venue. The only time I would not expect this is if you were having a small intimate dinner somewhere afterwards. Like we are having a destination wedding and will be having a dinner after the ceremony at a restaurant, I do not plan on having the officiant there.

As far as the rehersal dinner, no.

kb7:  Wow, I guess I’m the minority here, but I’ve invited our officiant to both.  I mean, he IS marrying us after all.  He lives 45 minutes, at least, from the venue so I’ve invinted him to the rehearsal dinner (although I’m not sure if he’s decided yet on that) as well as the reception (to which he accepted that one).

I should add that we didn’t know him prior to finding him through a vendor referral.  But we clicked, he’s very nice, and again, he’s marrying us.  He deserves some meals, regardless of what we are already paying.  lol
