While I do think it’s a bit early for your Future In Laws to be bringing this up, I found very much the same situation. I had a guest list from them with several couples neither I nor Fiance knew on it with a week of getting engaged. However, my in laws are helping a little bit money wise (though not really enough to even close to cover Fiance huge family and guest list), so I couldn’t find a way to say no to them. I say just roll with it, and like you said most of them aren’t likely to travel several states away to attend your wedding, so hopefully it wont effect your big day in then end.

OR you could be a little more head on with it and perhaps give them a set number of people they could invite. I considered this options for a while, thought it didn’t fit our situation. Though my Bridesmaid or Best Man did this for her wedding and I think it worked out best for everyone involved.
