My husband recently got a residency job at uni of iowa hospital and we are planning to move there in june 2013. I am currently looking for apartments and areas to live in but have totally no idea about the city.
so, from internet search and pictures, we kind of narrowed our preferences to coralville. Any feedback about living on 10th street near the mall? Is that area typically safe to live in?

I don’t live there, but I know from my recent home search that you can get heat maps of crimes (with police blotter descriptions) on Trulia.com if you have an address in the area to search (or you could click on a house/condo for sale listing in the area and find it that way). It really helped us figure out where to avoid!

@labmouse: Ohhh, my ex bf’s sister and Brother-In-Law lived out there while he was attending law school! I’d say it isn’t bad, a lot of grad/doctoral/law students. It’s right off the interstate and close to basically everything you’d need. Have you tried PadMapper? It’s a really great app to find apartments.

A friend of ours lives near there. It seemed safe and reasonably convenient. To echo Marisa- she was a grad student.
What is your husband’s specialty?

Darling Husband and I lived in Coralville for about a year while I interned at a U of Iowa facility. We lived off of 22nd ave. Close enough to the mall, but not so close we had to deal with the traffic. It is a really nice area, I kind of miss it sometimes 🙂 Iowa City has a pretty decent bar scene, but I wouldn’t want to live downtown. PM me if you want any more specific location info/recommendations 🙂 You will enjoy it there, I’m sure!
