I have both. While I love my iPad and wouldn’t trade it for the world, it doesn’t replace a laptop or desktop. There are limitations on the iPad and some things just aren’t as easy to do. Even posting on here is much more difficult. It’s still an incredible device and just about the coolest thing ever (atleast imo) but if you’re getting it to replace an actual computer, you may be disappointed. Now, if you do end up getting a “family” computer at some point then having the iPad would probably be great for you but it really depends on how much you’re going to use it.

Darling Husband and I (while admittedly more tech obsessed than most) each have our own desktops, our own laptops and our own iPads. I realize that’s a bit much for the average family but we don’t share our gadgets well. Only having one shared computer would never fly for us but it really depends on what you’re going to use it for and how often. We’re on our computers all day, every day (for the most part). If it’s really just going to be something thats used sporadically by both of you, then getting an iPad would probably be the way to go. Best of both worlds!

We have a macbook and an ipad.  We got the ipad for Darling Husband primarily because he is in the Navy and can take it with him on deployments down the road.  Right now he is in school, so he uses it now, but doesn’t need to type.  He has a wireless/bluetooth keyboard so he can type, but that was an added expense.  We LOVE the portability of it, and how we can take it everywhere.  He loves it for games – you have many more options and a lot of them are cheaper for the ipad.

I like the ipad, but it’s really different than a laptop.  The touch screen takes some getting used to, and some things don’t work on an ipad, like flash based games.  Although, I heard they were going to fix that, but I’m not sure.  We have the ipad 2, so I don’t really know how the 3 is different.

I would recommend trying one out for a day if you can, or stay at the store a few hours to try it out doing everything you normally do to see how you like it.  Typing long things is really difficult, so if you decide to get it, I would highly recommend also looking into getting a wireless keyboard as well.

@subbywife11:  Flash will never be supported on the iPad. I agree with the wireless keyboard though.

I have one of the keyboard cases but it sucks. When we went on our Honeymoon, we brought a small wireless keyboard to use so I could still blog. That worked out perfectly since it was basically just like a computer then. Still couldn’t use an external mouse but that’s someting you get used to.

I absolutely love my ipad and will never buy another laptop again.

That being said, I have a good friend who complains about blogging on her ipad all the time. I guess she can’t upload or something from her ipad? Flash is pretty much going to die off, so I wouldn’t let that be a problem. It annoys me right now that there’s no flash on my ipad, but soon flash will stop being used everywhere.

@PinkMagnolia:  The uploading is my biggest complaint, too. Can’t even upload pictures on here.

@CaitMarae ugh yes. I’m at a desktop now, but I hate using weddingbee too on an ipad! It’s irritating that you have to open a different window to write in and then upload.

My biggest complaint about the ipad (I don’t blog) is that you can’t insert a USB drive. It drives me crazy!! I can’t use the cloud because it’s banned at work.
