Darling Husband and I have noticed on several occasions now that many people in the general public think it is acceptable to use iPads as a camera. However, for any event attracting the general public (concert, parade, fireworks show, etc.), this involves holding up something bright and distracting in your peripheral vision and blocking the view of anyone standing behind you.
Exhibit A:

Also, for your viewing pleasure, there is now a website completely devoted to this topic: http://ipadisnotacamera.com/
How do you feel about this? Would it upset you if Uncle John or Aunt Sue whipped this out during your wedding ceremony to snap pics — or worse, record the ENTIRE ceremony?
UGH.

I personally wouldnt see someone out of 200+ at my ceremony if they did this. I also would not care. I guess to avoid this just have an unplugged ceremony like many others have done or will do.

@MrsEdamame: THANK YOU!
Seriously. Use your iPad as a camera in the privacy of your own home where it doesn’t matter that you look stupid. I get it, it takes nice pictures. But how is that any more convenient then carrying around a real camera?

@gelaine22: I included the note about weddings just as one example. We saw multiple people doing this at Disney World, which was incredibly distracting during parades, shows, etc. — and most of them were recording video as well, not just taking pictures.
My point was that I don’t understand why people think it’s acceptable to ever use them as cameras, lol.

I don’t own an iPad, or really mind what people do with theirs, but that picture is seriously hilarious.

@MrsEdamame: meh…it doesnt bother me. What I find weird is that an iPad is big to carry around with you. I would never have something like that at a wedding, theme park, show, etc. But to each his/her own. I’m 5 ft tall so something or someone is always blocking my view! Haha

Thank you for posting this !
I recently went to Disneyland and all these people taking pictures with their iPads during shows and parades were very distracting and annoying.

I saw tourists in England in big groups with huge ipads out. I thought it was weird, partly because they had the cases dangling open. It looked awkward. I understand the world’s need to have these all-in-one devices now, but I’m of the camp that I want a camera that’s a camera, a kindle that just reads books, a computer that’s a computer, a phone that’s a phone, etc. Gah I’m old. I resist change. Haha.

@Audrey2_sings: Right?? I confess that I’ve used mine at home once or twice to snap a picture when I didn’t want to grab my phone, but it’s only ever been at home! I would never think of trying to cram my iPad into my purse for a concert or something.
@betsyface: lol, Darling Husband found it and I laughed so hard. Had to share.

Agreed. We were at the aquarium and people were using them all over the place, which blocks other people’s views of the tanks. Annoying.

@MrsEdamame: This seems like kind of a weird issue to get so worked up about…

They are so expensive and delicate, my mind boggles that people are happy to wave them around like that and take them places.
I’ll stick with my indestructable Olympus compact thankyouverymuch.

I really don’t care. My Mother-In-Law is technology illiterate but has mastered the iPad. For some reason she just gets how to use everything on it and therefore uses it as her camera.
I think it looks a bit ridiculous but I really don’t care what others use as their camera. I have no idea what the quality is, but if someone already has an iPad that takes good pictures and you already take it everywhere, why invest in a camera as well?
