I am on verizon (can’t change) and have been waiting on the iphone 5. Now it seems like that might be forever, and my old phone is working less and less. Should I get the 4S or continue to hold out for the 5? Part of the reason I have been waiting is facetime- FH and I are in a LDR and really want that. I keep searching, but can’t find whether this is available on the 4s with verizon. Thanks!
ETA: I know the iphone is capable of facetime, but want to be sure it is available on verizon. (I was told the iphone 4 can do it with AT&T but not verizon.)

I got the Verizon iPhone 4 over the summer. It has facetime (and the Skype app works too). The only reason I would recommend waiting would be if you really want the 4G capability that the iPhone 5 is supposed to have. My iPhone 4 is great though and the only thing I am truly jealous of on the new 4S is that it can work outside of the US.

Yes, I will be pre-ordering on friday. I am still using am 2g (the original iphone) and it’s barely functional anymore. No phone is made to last 5 years. I went to upgrade to the iphone 4 when it came out but was talked out of it by the at&t sales person and my year plus wait for the next model began.
I would not expect the iphone 5 to be released in under a year, so if your current phone isn’t working too well, I would not wait.

iphone is well worth it! i cant imagine the 4S not haviing facetime, it works well on the 4 – so does skype – i used it all the time to talk to my bro in afghanistan haha.

I would check if your area even has 4G before waiting for that reason. My area does not have 4G and probably won’t for a WHILE.

Nah. I’ll just buy the iPhone 4 when it’s on sale (I have the 3GS still).

My husband and I just got the iPhone 4 in May, so we’re not due for an upgrade for another year and a half. So I’m sticking with the 4! By that time, the 6 will be out ;o)

I have the iPhone 4 and am perfectly happy with it. It does have the face time but only works in a well connected wifi area for both of you. We can’t use it bc of how rural we are. I second the recommendation of checking your 4G coverage. We were told our internet card could reach us in 4G but it does not and our 3G card worked much faster when we had it.
Edit: I’m with Verizon.

I have the 3G and the thing is just run into the ground. It is SO SLOW!! I’ve put off upgrading because I was waiting for the iPhone 5. I cannot wait another year (or however long it takes!) so I’ll be upgrading to the 4S. I’m so excited!!!

I want one, since its FINALLY coming to Sprint, but I dont know if I feel good spending that amount of money on a phone. And I’m sure my monthly bill will significantly increase.

facetime is definitely on my iPhone 4 from Verizon – sometimes I accidentally try to call people with it if I’m not paying attention.

I have the 4 so I won’t be upgrading… although I’d REALLY like the higher mgpx camera and I wouldn’t mind siri…. and icloud… icloud would be AWESOME!
I think Darling Husband will be upgrading though… he’s up for one and still has the 3gs
I think as long as you have an IOS5 capable iphone you’re still good. =)
And I’m sure that the 5 will more than likely be out next year… it’s becoming their tradition. lol

Facetime does work with the iphone4 on Verizon on wifi only. However, you can download the Skype app and use Skype via 3G (iphone 4 doesn’t have 4g capabilities) for the same outcome. I skype with my mom via my phone and it works great.

I’ll be getting it for sure. I’ve been using my FI’s hand-me-down 3GS so it’s time for an upgrage! Hurray!

I’d really like to get the new 4GS cuz I’ve been wanting an iPhone for awhile now, but not sure which carrier to go with cuz even though Verizon is great, their prices are outrageous and I don’t know if I wanna pay a high phone bill every month.
