northwinds : The 7 or 7 Plus is a really solid choice if you don’t upgrade phones that often. It was a major overhaul from previous models, even though they look basically the same.
I have a 7 (and had the 6s and 6 before it) and I love the size. I loved the iPhone 4 body best, but the 6 onward is a nice compromise of increased screen size without too much bulk. My husband and a few other family members have the 7+, Mother-In-Law loves hers but I can’t stand it, it’s crazy big to me. Sometimes I like to go out in jeans and just pop the phone in my pocket, no handbag, that wouldn’t be possible with the 7+. I find the 7 big enough to comfortably browse online when I’m out (but I wouldn’t use it for watching tv). I’ll be getting the X when it comes out and I’m nervous about the size increase, I’m so accustomed to the 7. Gotta have those animated emojis, though. 😝
The headphone jack thing is such a non issue I don’t even understand why people discuss it. If you really want to live in the dark ages with wires there’s an adapter, but I’ve been using wireless Bluetooth headphones for about fifty years already. You can pick up decent ones on amazon for like 15 bucks.

If you text with your phone in landscape mode (horizontal), make sure you try out a plus before making your decision. That’s my preferred way to text, but I cannot comfortably reach the center keys on the plus phones. I have a 7 right now and I like it. I don’t feel that the 8 is enough of a change to switch phones, but I’m curious about the iPhone X because I could get more screen without the overall size of the phone changing too drastically. I’ll still need to see/handle one in person before deciding though.
The headphone thing is a non-issue for me. I use bluetooth wireless headphones.

northwinds : I have the 7 Plus and wouldn’t trade the size for the world. I have very small hands (I’m short and have small feet) and I don’t have issues with it at all. I love the experience I get with it and have zero issues texting or doing any normal phone activities. And when I watch Netflix/Youtube/Anything I LOVE that the screen is compact enough to travel as a phone but big enough that I don’t feel like I’m annoyed with the itty-bittyness of other people’s phones. Also, I put it in my jeans pockets all the time and go out with no purse sometimes with it just in my pocket and have zero issues and I wear tight skinny jeans… I say take the plunge LOL.
Also, about the lack of a headphone jack… I use bluetooth wireless headphones so I never had an issue with that. It comes with a jack to connect even if you didn’t have wireless headphones 🙂
