I have the X but I think I liked my 8 Plus better, although the screens are the same size I liked the bigger 8.

The fingerprint ID was also more convenient, sometimes my phone doesn’t recognize me if I’m wearing glasses, or when I’ve just woken up (I must look REALLY bad in the morning??) and then it takes a few seconds to give you the option to unlock the phone with your passcode.

Very minor dislikes about the X, I still have my old 8 and might go back to it.

pepetobee :  I’ve been holding on to my 6S waiting on the new models to come out (either to get a new one or to get an 8 at a cheaper price) and I’m still contemplating. My husband has the 8 Plus and loves it. I’m not sure how I feel about the facial recognition and no button.

I have an 8+ (which I chose over the X because the additional features didn’t justify the price difference to me). No complaints! I hold onto my phones for as long as possible so I’ll have it for awhile.

You can add a “virtual” home button: general > accessibility > assistive touch > customize top level menu – 1 icon (change setting to home button). I have the iPhone X and did it (I actually added 4 icons, so I have a shortcut for home, control center, device, and screenshot). I really like it now, and will probably absolutely love it once iOS 12.0 is available.

Personally I would splurge on the latest model if you can so that you have a phone that’ll be able to support new software upgrades for the next few years without too many performance issues. If not, I’d go for the iPhone 8 Plus.

iPhone x is no longer sold and only offered through carriers but they will stop carrying them as well. 7, 8, xr and xs are it. (I work for Apple)

If you’re used to galaxy and not note, you’ll be fine with a regular 8, xr or xs (not xs max). If really depends on what you use it for and what you’re comfortable with.

I’d get the XS, but I was hoping Apple would come out with another SE-sized phone! I’ve had the 7 plus for a couple of years now and, as ridiculous as it may sound, I’ve experienced quite a bit of hand and wrist strain while holding it up.

hbraerae :  I’d love to know what your role is at Apple! Any insight into whether a smaller iPhone will ever be back in our future? 🙂

pepetobee :  I had the iPhone 8 and upgraded to the X and am so glad I did. If you have the money, get the X.

therefore :  i, too, prefer a smaller phone – i have small hands! Currently have a 7, but due for an upgrade and…blegh i just don’t know. Sigh. But i disgress – the reason I’m replying to you is to ask if you’ve tried out a phone ring? I got one a couple years ago and it’s been ham changing – must less hand/wrist stewing generally since i don’t have to actually rely on grip to hold my phone (i just stick my finger through the ring instead). It’s become quite the accessory i can’t live without now. Try it out!

therefore :  xs is actually not a huge phone. The screen is slightly bigger than the 7 plus you currently have but the phone itself is smaller. Getting rid of the white border around the phone so the phone is all about the screen without added size (like the 7 and 8 plus) was a huge innovation for iPhone x and one that will continue so the screen is the focal point. You can still find SE through carrier but not for long. If you’re interested in a small phone like that, I’d suggest picking it up now as it is no longer sold by Apple or checking out xs. (xr is bigger than xs)

I got the X.  I love it I wanted the smaller size and I didn’t mind the lack of buttons.

catskillsinjune :  Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve been spotting a lot of friends and coworkers (especially those who are good at multitasking with kids!) with the phone ring! Do you have any recommendations for brands? Or do you think they’re all about the same quality and looking at reviews on Amazon is fine?

hbraerae :  I appreciate your insight! Also, you sound like an advocate for your employer, which is awesome. I can’t say that I’m onboard with 100% of my company’s products and policies, ha!

therefore :  they’re basically all the same – like $10 on amazon. after a while, the hinge loosens which makes it less useful as a stand, but most of the ring packs come with 2. i get like 9-12-ish months out of it before i swap it for a new one. never had one break. i have a case on my phone, so also never worried about the adhesive used to stick it on. the ones i like are the ones that lay totally flat when closed: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075L7NZ5S/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
