I have the 16GB 3GS and love it! I don’t have much advice for you because since I already have an iphone I have the $30 unlimited data plan. Also, my parents pay my phone bill as a gift to me for focusing so hard on school so I don’t really know what my bill is!

As far as 16GB/32GB I have had no problem running out of space on the 16GB. I have had it for almost a year and haven’t come even close to filling it up, and I have 5 pages of apps downloaded!

That being said, I don’t store my music on my phone. I only have 100 songs stored and those are songs I use when I go running. I say if you are going to be storing your whole music collection on your phone than get the 32GB. If not, save yourself the money and get the 16GB. (but lucky it is only $50 difference, it was $100 when I got my phone!)

I have the 16GB 3GS and also love it. Your q’s:

16 or 32 gb?

– 16 is more than enough for me – I can’t even get close to filling up half of it with 3 pages of apps and my entire iPod mini loaded on.

200MB or 2GB data?

-errr..I don’t know..

450, 900, or unlimited minutes? The 450 and 900 has rollover.

-I have 450 and never use it up. Keep in mind AT&T has a “top 10” or whatever plan, so you can enter 10 numbers and never pay to talk to any of them (ground lines, other cells, any network). Also, my bf and I are on the same account, so we don’t pay to talk to each other at all.

200, 1500, or unlimited messaging?

– 200 plus I use “textfree unlimited” app from the App Store. You can (obviously) text for free, so my bf and I use this and never use our texts up. The only time you use texts is if someone texts you first and it goes into your main folder.

We pay $157 for two iPhones with unlimited data ($30 each), 450 mins each, and 200 texts each per month.

Hope this helps!

I say the following:

32 GB of space if you have a lot of music. If not, do the 16GB. I have the second version on the iPhone and would kill for 32 GB at this point!

I would go with the 2GB data plan. I use around 300mb a month, which would make that 200mb plan crazy expensive with the overages. I use my phone a reasonable amount for email, internet searches, etc – if oyu really use the phone, you will go over the 200 mb. I think they designed the plan so that most people fall over the 200mb but below the 2GB so that everyone would have to get the more expensive plan (which is still $5 less a month than the current unlimited plan).

I never talk on the phone – I have almost 5,000 rollover minutes. THe 450 minute plan has been way more than enough for me.

I use the 200 text message plan, but don’t text a whole lot. i am usually right under or 5 or so over. At $0.10 each, that still makes it way cheaper than the next plan up.

After taxes, my plan should be around $85 a month, I believe, but I get a 24% discount through my work, so I really only pay about $63.

Oh and I would wait for 4 to come out – it’s available for pre-order TOMORROW and will have a much enhanced service than the current phone, including crazy stuff like a front-facing camera (for video chat from your phone).

Damn I forgot that too.. I also get a 15% discount from work, so it would be slightly more than my current bill.

I love my iphone and I got the otterbox case for it – It makes your phone practically indestructible, we have hardwood floors and I dropped it on the coffee table and it bounced off onto the floor and had no scratches, diddn’t shut off or anything (which that happened to me with phones before when I accidentally dropped it) so I definately reccomend the otterbox if your’ clumsy like me! Lol

my FH and I split 700 minutes and both have unlimited texting and Depending on which carrier you use they may only have one data plan – we have AT&T because Verizon had no reception in our apartment so we switched and we seriously couldn’t be happier. But our data plan is unlimited for 30 a month. I don’t know how much it is total because my little sister is on our plan too

I only have 8G!  I have tons of songs on it and have never had a space issue.  I don’t have any movies or TV shows though.  I also have every single pictures I have taken in the last 5 years on there!  So I think 16 would be more than enough.

I pay like $95 for 1500 texts, and probably 900 minutes.  I have never gone over on either of them.  I get 15% off for work too (teacher).

I would wait for the 4G unless the price is way different.  They get way faster each generation and have some different capabilities, although most new tools can be added through an update…you just don’t get the faster processing speed.

I love my iphone!!!  We have the unlimited data that we are able to keep grandfathered in but it depends on how much you are on your phone using itunes, internet, etc.  I am WELL under the 2GB/month but DH is pretty close to, if not over that.  We both have 16gb phones and I have plenty of room on mine with a bunch of songs, 1 or 2 videos and about 7 pages of apps.  DH is pretty close to his 16gb and would get the 32gb when we get new ones.

Double check the pricing, I thought it was $199 for the 16gb and $299 for the 32gb (new iphone 4)?  The new pricing for the 3gs (not newest iphone coming out) is $149 for 16gb and $199 for 32gb

Keep in mind on the minutes that mobile to mobile minutes dont go toward your minute count (if you and DH both have ATT it wont go toward your minutes).  We have 700 between the two of us and never use them all up.  It really depends how much you talk and if alot of your friends and family have ATT

We have unlimited text messaging, definitely get that if you text alot or recieve alot because incoming text messages count toward it!

For both of our phones with the unlimited data (wont be available with new customers), 700 minutes with rollover, unlimited text and multimedia messaging it is $150/per month.  We also get 20% off our bill through work

My plan is as follows

unlimited data

450 minutes nationwide, free mobile to mobile, with tons of rollover (i never go over)

200 text messages (never gone over)

and i have the 16gb iphone (plenty of space left)

I have a corporate discount (not sure of percentage) – bill for just my phone is $72.

I just dropped down from unlimited data to the 200mb plan because i never use more than that (gonna save $15/month).  I’m not a big iphone fan at all, so maybe this doesn’t help you out.  It’s fine for surfing the web and what not but it’s a terrible phone.  AWFUL reception and dropped calls like crazy.  Been an AT&T customer for 10 years (never an issue until I got the iphone) and I am switching to Verizon and getting a droid at the end of my contract in November.

I also have the 16GB 3GS and think that it is FANTASTIC! I absolutely love this phone. My FH and I are on the same plan… we share 900 minutes, that of which roll over at the end of every month. Then we both have unlimited messaging. The phone has a $30 multimedia package that I *think* has to be added when you start up the phone. And as far as the GB’s go… I’ve had my phone for almost a year now and I have SO much space on it. That’s with a lot of music and pictures in my folders :]

I recommend the iPhone to everyone! I LOVE my it :]

@MissChocolate – that $30 isn’t a multimedia package – it is your data plan (ie 3G internet). I would go to your account online or through the AT&T app and see what your monthly data usage is – you should be able to save at least $5 a month, possibly $15 a month by switching to the new plans.

@misschocolate: new iphone users can no longer add the $30 unlimited data plan. They switched it to either a 200MB or 2GB plan :/

I have more than enough space on my 16 GB and I never delete any photos and keep tv episodes on there. I spend $30 for the data plan, I had an AT&T family plan anyway so I’m not sure what it would be for you.

Since it’s a big purchase and you’ll be signing a contract, make sure you talk to your FI before you buy it. Why did he give up his iPhone before? The newer ones are cool  (I have a 3GS), and I know the original had some issues.
