Hellow ladies! We just confirmed our venue and would love any recommendations for photographers, band or dj, and florist. While we are getting assistance from our families, we would not want to be paying $20,000 for flowers nor would we like to be poking around on craigslist for our wedding, so something in between that is good quality.
We also would like to know if people still use a full wedding planner (my mother said people do this) or if this is something most people are omitting.

@culturalcollide: I just had my wedding reception in Ipswich 2 weeks ago.
I used Chapman’s in Beverly as my florist. They don’t have much online but are a family owned florist which my parents have been using for years. They did an amazing job with the flowers (I LOVED my bouquet) and really listened to all my ideas for the flowers. They were very reasonably priced for all the flowers we had.
We used Murray Hill Talent for our DJ. Our DJ was Scott Arrington and I cannot sing enough praises for him. He did an amazing job without being overbearing and played such a great mix of music. He had our guests from age 3-83 on the dance floor all night. I highly recommend him.
We used Diamond Photo Design for our photography. They are based in Billerica MA. We haven’t gotten our pictures back yet but I was very pleased with how they worked on the day. Photography was one of our bigger expenses but I priced many photographers in the North Shore area and they were in the middle range and I really liked their work.
If you want any more info on these vendors or any others send me a message!

So far we have Winston Flowers http://www.winstonflowers.com/ for the florist. Don’t be intimidated by the name I know they have a reputation for doing some of the most opulent weddings but they can actually work with lower budgets. Photography is one of the higher priorities for us and we selected Heather Parker Photography http://www.heatherparker.com/blog/ after several friends got married and regretting going with their photographers wishing they splurged a little more. We just don’t want a lingering disappointment after the wedding and everyone has been saying to not cut corners on this. I think for us for entertainment, we are still going back and fourth between a DJ and a band. What I have heard is Boston Common Band http://www.bostoncommonband.com/ can do a DJ/band combo but I am not sure if that makes it cost any less. The entertainment is on hold for a bit until we figure out a few more things with our budget.

http://www.simplebouquets.com makes gorgeous bouquets, and they are affordable.
http://www.shineband.com I just heard at a wedding I did in Beverly MA a few weeks ago and they are by far the best wedding band I’ve ever heard.
Full wedding planner? Not necessary if you are organized and pay attention to detail. Based on your wedding date – I’m thinking you are!
🙂 Good luck

I had some amazing vendors.
DJ- Peter Accola from NuImage Entertainment. Best DJ any of my guests had ever seen, he was amazing and worth every penny.
Florist- Audrey’s Flower Shop- Heather Peterson was trained at Winston’s and knows all their tricks and was very reasonably priced. She had some amazing ideas and my wedding pictures turned out perfect. She really worked within our budget and everything came out wonderful.
Photographer- Like mcboyle, we also used Diamond Photo Design. I loved working with them and I am in love with my pictures! They made out day run with such ease eventhough we had a large crazy family.
Good luck and let me know if you want to see pictures so you can look at the photographer, florist, and see how crazy the DJ got everyone!

Also we didn’t use a wedding planner. We had one with our venue and everything worked out.

Where are you getting married? My wedding is next September at Turner Hill!
I am curious what people are doing for hotels up there…or if you have already had your wedding what youa re doing for a hotel? I spoke with Crowne Plaza Danvers (Ferncroft), but they are so unaccomodating. Or at least i feel that way. I want to get ready at the hotel and the sales woman said “no food and drinks allowed in room for any reason”. And I said well when my maids and I are getting ready can we bring Dirty Delete bagels and coffee and she said we would have to order from the hotel…but not to worry b/c a dozen bagels is reasonably priced at $32. UMMM…OK. They have been awful so far and ‘m trying to figure out what makes the most sense for us. I want guests to be able to drink at a bar after and I think Crowne Plaza is the only hotel that would be able to have an “afterparty” at. Any other thoughts?

@GH910: that is surprising about the Ferncroft… we had our wedding at Turner Hill in August 2009 — we went with that hotel since it was the closest (and biggest) we had about 180 at our wedding, and we did busses to make it easy, that was by far the only hotel in the immediate area to accomodate us.
I think they’re under new ownership though? It was a Sheraton when we were there.. We DEFINITELY had food and drinks in the room – are they kidding? that’s crazy. Some friends rented one of the big suites too – and after the bar closed in the lobby – we all went to that room – we filled the bathtub with beers and champagne, and they had purchased big trays of food from an outside source & had them there. They didn’t parade it in front of everyone, but got it to the room discreetly.
that bar was definitely fun for the afterparty!
the only problem we had was that the check in was so late – that people were just barely able to check into their rooms before we had the busses taking them over to Turner Hill..
let me know if you have any other questions!! it was SUCH a gorgeous place for a wedding – i loved every single second of it!

I agree that is surprising for the Ferncroft. I went to a Mothers Day brunch there before and loved it. I haven’t stayed there and don’t know anyone who has. We are also using Heather Parker Photography. @ ama2011, where was your wedding at?

Highly recommend Bella Flora for a florist (they are in Westwood but would most likely travel). She can let you know what flowers are in season and which ones are simliar to what you like but might be priced more reasonably to still get the look you want. Also, Heather Parker Photography was fantastic, check her out.
