I just got my first IRL compliment (other than family/friends)….and it was from…gasp! A guy?!?! I happened to be outside unloading the car full of groceries and our across the street neighbor came over with his daughter to sell tubs of cookie dough for her school. I reached over to take the pamplet she handed me and he said “Wow! Now that’s a ring!! Can I see it?”. I promply said “thank you” and showed it to him and he said “Beautiful”, did you design it yourself? And we just said “sort of” (did not want to give him the long story on that) and then asked my husband, “Ok, Can I see yours too?” -Which I thought was kinna weird- and he took his off and handed it to him and he asked “Is this tungsten? Nice!”
Was kind of awkward but It was totally nice of him. But I guess I was taken off guard 1) That a guy noticed and as actually interested in my ring, whom is already married 2) That he seemed to know what gold vs tungsten was…lol
Anyone else have sort of simular awkward experiance? lol

@JessMorgan777: allll the time at work. I love it. I’m in retail so whenever I’m at the register or out on the floor women are always like ohhh ahhh can I see. Lol. It really helps that we have super bright “spot” lights in our store and it shines like crazy.
Maybe the guy was looking to buy a ring for hia lady so he’s always scoping them out on women? And then he didn’t want your husband to feel left out so he asked to see his ring too?

@JessMorgan777: I agree – it catches me off guard when a man notices too! I’ve had my (male) dentist and (male) doctor compliment my ring before…weird now that I think of it that they’re both in the medical field. ha! But it’s definitely an ego boost! I was also at a work function once and a girl in my office grabbed my hand to see my ring. I immediately started getting flushed as everyone started staring at us. Gahh…but anyway – let’s see a pic of this sparkler you have!! 🙂

Parents at work (I was a preschool teacher at a VERY expensive private center) used to grab my hand and demand to know what my Darling Husband does!
My reply was always the same: “Haha, I know! I teach preschool and he’s a business genius!”

@JessMorgan777: That’s awesome!
The best ring IRL story I have is from my mom, she used to work in a clothing store and there was this guy who would come in and chat/ flirt. He was there one day when my mom was working alone and was really putting on the charm, she tried to do a subtle ring flash and it backfired. He grabbed her hand and pulled it to his face, going on and on about how beautiful it was and how she had great taste. She looked at him and said “thanks, but my husband gave it to me, so I guess he’s the one with good taste”. The guy stammered for a bit and left. The story is hilarious IRL when my mom tells it.

@JessMorgan777: Gynecologist office about a month after i got engaged at my pap appointment….i was literally laying there right after she finished my exam and i had my hands folded on my stomach….she looks at me….takes off her gloves grabs my hand and soooo loudly (I work with her sadly enough as she rounds on alot of surgical patients who have had gyneocological surgeries…hysters, mastectomies, ect, so i do know here but still timing…) goes “Oh my god honey your engaged that is sooo beautiful!!!! ahhh im soo excited for you and Fiance, bout time, its been what 10 years now (6 1/2 but whose counting : P )!” and then goes on and proceeds to check my breasts and talk about re-assessing my birth control needs…
But on a regular basis one of the older ladies that works at our local grocery store compliments my ring every time i go to the store…

I don’t have any “odd” compliment stories but I do find it funny that I get compliments on my set all the time IRL and people say how much they love that they’re completely different styles and metals…yet it seems like majority of ppl on the Bee hate mis-matched sets and mixed metals.

@JessMorgan777: I’ve only had a few strangers compliment me on my ring but the “biggest” compliment came from this really quiet guy that works in our IT helpdesk. He’s the kind of person who everyone thinks is shy but is full of good zingers and he and I have a good/jovial/kind of sassy relationship. The other day he pulled me aside and I figured it was to make fun of me for something and he goes “yo you cant be doin this at work” and i said “what, have you been stalking my net history and seen all my facebooking?” and his response was “no, that ring. people gonna be wondering why you even work here. makin all the girls jealous.”
All i could do was laugh and tell him to talk to my husband about it, and that going to a good college apparently pays off ha. It was cute, and TOTALLY unexpected from him (he lives in jeans a hoodies and barely speaks to most people.) The husband thought it was cute, too.

- Wedding: September 2013 - Ontario, Canada
I have a lady who sometime visits my office is stalking my ring lol. She was all like “OMG your ring is AMAZING!” the first time I met her. I though, ok that is nice, a bit akward in the middle of the office when I don’t know her at all but I just said “thank you”. A few weeks later she was over again and brought her friend over loudly stating “This is the woman with the amazing engagement ring i was telling you about – show her”. Errr….ookeey…
She has since told me she has told her Boyfriend or Best Friend all about it and that she wants one like it when he propses and she has alse brough an additional 2 people along to show them my ring and asked me how many carats it is.

That’s a funny story! You know, the most sincerely interested compliments/questions I get about my ring are from men! Most are married men. Before I got engaged I would have NEVER guessed that would be the case lol. Even my husband asks to see women’s rings now when he finds out their engaged and compliments them on how “pretty” they are lol! It’s so sweet.

@JessMorgan777: I got my first irl compliment the day after I got engaged! We were in a local boutique and the owner asked if she could see my ring. She kept on saying that he did a really good job. 😀

@JessMorgan777: Bahaha. I havent gotten anything too weird, but at our post elopement reception this weekend one friend who hadnt yet seen my wedding band asked to see it and when I gave her my hand she simply frowned and said “that’s huge” and walked away.

@IzzyBear: Thats funny, my set is mismatched/mixed metals too and everyone IRL hates it, like to the point where they can’t hide it but on the bee I’ve gotten a lot of compliments. Though, I have seen tons of comments about people on here disliking the mismatched look. *shrugs*
I think you have a halo and a rose gold eternity, the kind that has like round nd marquis shapes? If I’m right, then I adore your set

love this thread!
@mrsmay07: oh man! haters gonna hate, LOL! i had a similar situation with a friend i hadn’t seen since we had gotten engaged… her husband was fawning over my ring (it was so sweet of him!) and asked her if she’d seen it yet (she hadn’t), although she replied ‘yep’ and walked away! not even a hug or congrats or anything, i couldn’t believe it! we are actually (or were…) really good friends too! ridiculous.
@SunflowerGarden: i’ve noticed the same thing, mostly men!! who would’ve thought!?
