My hair is in desperate need of at the very least a trim, but I would love a complete overhaul…however…I have had so many disasterous hair cuts, that even the thought of a trim makes me panic.
I have not had scissors to my hair (except my fringe, which I cut myself) in 19 months. When it was last cut, it was cut in such a way that it kinda tapers down my back in a v. The longest part of my hair is at my hips, part of my fringe that has grown out is below my chin, it’s all kind of lengths. It generally looks healthy, but I know it needs to be cut/trimmed/something!!
This is such a silly thing to get so worked up over (I know this) but it’s still a very real fear.
What the eff do I do, ladies?!?!?!

I have the same feelings about cutting my hair. Except I grow it out see a cute bob and then cry after I cut it. Maybe just go for a trim and some bangs and go from there. Ease back into it:)
ETA: Get a recommendation from a friend of someone that is good, so you trust them.

Find an awesome stylist that is willing to take the time to cut in steps.
After overcoming a HORRIBLE hair cut that took over a year to “fix” I went to my current stylist and explained the situation. She was willing to take the time to cut in steps rather than one drastic length cut and it eased my anxiety.
In other words you may need to spend more and avoid those “store front” shops that we are so familiar with. You need a patient and experienced stylist.

I have a similar haircut to yours I think, except my bangs come about to my eyes and are side-swept, and my hair at it’s longest point is at my waist.
I get really anxious about getting haircuts too. I looked at a lot of youtube tutorials and looked up info on google and learned how to trim my own hair. It takes the stress and money out of the picture and it’s worked out well for the past couple of years I’ve been doing it. If you do it yourself, you have complete control over how much you take off, how it’s shaped, and how long you take to do it. I find it’s actually relaxing to cut my hair, as weird as that sounds. Since you’d just be trimming it, there’s only so much you could possibly mess up, so if you make a noticeable mistake, it’s nothing that couldn’t easily be fixed by a professional.
If trimming it yourself isn’t an option, research your salon before you go to see if there are any customer reviews available so you can pick the one that would work best for you. When you go, just tell your stylist that you get nervous about getting your hair cut- every one I’ve been to whom I’ve told this was very nice and made sure as they were cutting it that I liked what they were doing- asking for my input, ect. I mostly cut my own hair now because I’m too lazy/poor to go to a salon every other month.. haha. Good luck!

@penguinsaremyfriends: The last lady that cut my hair was from a recommendation by one of my best friends *eeek* which makes me even more scared now 🙁
@Treejewel19: I think cutting in steps might be the way to go. People have said I should donate my hair, which I would gladly do, except my hair isn’t virgin, so it wouldn’t be accepted.
@shyviolette: This is what frustrates me, I am not trained but I give wicked hair cuts, it’s just really hard to cut your own. I may just have to set aside a large chunk of time and give it a whirl.
