I ate 3 at the last wedding I was at.  They. were. awesome. It seemed like there were enough cupcakes for all.

Hm.  I tend to go overboard on desserts, so I think you might need a few extras, but…  that’s coming from a cupcake-a-holic.

At my engagement party, we had cupcakes for desert & I’ve never seen so many ravanis guests…We ordered 2 cupcakes per person & still there was nothing left & people who didn’t get any…So I would say order minimum 2 per person!

I had cupcakes at my wedding last spring, and I ordered 100 for 85 guests. I had at least 12 left over at the end of the night. Some people may have had multiple cupcakes, but I was shocked how many people didn’t even try one. Some people aren’t into sweets.

As someone who is always big on desserts, maybe instead of adding cupcakes you could add another option? Like cookies or brownies? You could make them yourself.  Then, people will have a selection and you will very likely not run out of cupcakes.

You definitely need to order enough for everyone. If you will have 56 guests, I think you need 70-75 cupcakes at minimum. I do think the sign comes off as rude, and I think it’s rude not to have extra food for your guests. As a guest I would be sad if I didn’t get a cupcake at all, or if I wanted 2 but only got one.  I would cut out the top tier 6 inch cake entirely and order a dozen more cupcakes. You and your husband can feed each other cupcakes as part of your toast.

I am a bit of a cake/cupcake addict. It seemed like there were enough cupcakes for all.

I think one per person is just fine. They can be ravenous beasts at dinner!

I was just at a cupcake wedding! It’s just like wedding cake… Only half of your guests are actually going to eat any! At my table of 8, only Fiance and I had one, and there were 6 leftover!

I agree with PP’s that you should get around 70 cupcakes or so, so that you have enough.  I don’t know if you live near a sams club, but we are doing our cupcakes from them (we will get getting our top tier from another bakery).  Their cupcakes are SO good!  And it’s only costing us about $40 for 120 cupcakes.  🙂

@EffieTrinket:  +1.  And to those who say 2 cupcakes a glutton makes…harsh.  Some of us like our cake!

I agree that 1 per person may not be enough, but since you’re on a strict budget, could you do 1.25 a person (maybe 70-75?) or supplement the number you’ve already ordered with an alternate, less expensive sweet – cookies/candy/etc.?

1 per person should be fine and I dont see anything rude about a litte sign.

Are you having any other sweets? If you are the 1 each is definitely enough.

I think one per person is fine. Some may not even eat it.

Holy expensive. We paid $250 and got 500 cookies and a 2 tiered cake!

I did a cupcake bar at my wedding, I’d say most people had 2.  But I did different flavor cupcakes with a variety of frostings/toppings so people may have gone back for a second to try something else. I would think 1 cupcake would pretty much be the same size as a slice of cake that’s served at a wedding.
