Is 100 cash enough for gift?

This is matter of culture.

I’m British as when I go to a British wedding I probably spend 50 pounds on a gift from me and my SO. Never cash, a gift.

However, my SO is Spanish and when we go to a Spanish wedding we are expected to give 300-400 euros cash from both of us as a gift.

it means each wedding we go to we spend a lot, but it means our own wedding won’t break the bank….and the cost of the weddings we go is spread out. So in a way it’s like each wedding I go to is paying back my own wedding but it’s spread out throughout the years. Hahaha.

$100 is the standard amount per youngish couple where I’m from (large city in Canada).

I don’t think the plate cost should affect the gift. If the couple decides to have an extravagent wedding it shouldn’t be up to the guests to foot the bill.
